I wonder how this will play out on the PGA circuit, and if it will lead to a local rule getting put in place at places like Augusta.

Adidas is gonna take a real beating over this, the should do a voluntary recall.

I doubt it. Most courses have banned metal spikes, and yet many PGA tour players still use them.

Metal spikes didn't do what these are doing. The sole on metal spikes would still spread a lot of the weight out.

Someone made a post earlier about that.

One of my regular golfing partners bought a pair last year and we notice the damage to the greens right away.

The club didn't ban them but I can confirm the damage they do.

I don't think Adidas will do anything but I certainly would not buy a pair.

I would love to see more and more golf courses banning them.

I didn't like how they felt when walking when I tried them on.  You can feel that all your weight is on the spikes so I was concerned they would break and wear down quickly if you spend much time on hard surfaces.   I much prefer the 2012/13 AdiPure.

My point was just because courses locally ban something, doesn't mean it will affect any rule on the PGA tour. For example, PGA National Golf Club does not allow guests to wear metal spikes on the golf course, but PGA Tour players could wear them in last week's tournament. Unless the shoes catastrophically damage the greens, I doubt they will ban them on tour. Besides, they probably only cause significant damage when people don't pick up their feet when walking.

Thanks guys, I'll pass on the info to my Saturday League (80 members), cause our greens get a bit soggy in the rainy season.

Have you seen some of the pictures? There seems to be a chance that they do "catastrophically damage greens." Players will also self-police this kind of thing even if it's never made into an official "policy." You can probably remember the Vijay/Phil thing at the Masters a while back…

The sole of the shoe never touches the ground so ALL of the weight of the player is on the spikes only, even with metal spikes the shoe sole still touched the surface and were less damaging unless someone started dancing "the twist".

That's some nasty damage. Looks to me like its from those protrusions on the sole where the spikes are attached to. I'd bet they would do damage even with the spikes removed.

Hmmm. I do own a pair of Audizero shoes. And to be honest, i also noticed some slight damage on the greens I would step on, but not nearly as much as what we just saw in the photos posted in this thread. Geez louise thats a lot of damage. I will be keeping a lookout for some new golf shoes sometime here in the beginning of the season.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
