So… what does everyone think about the social media reaction to the tampon thing?

I thought tampon thing was funny. Social media/press reaction was 100% predictable.

My take is that he knew it was dumb to do in public, but just doesn't give a s**t anymore - wants to have some fun.

During Tiger Woods' much-anticipated return to golf Thursday at the Genesis Invitational, he pulled a controversial prank on Justin Thomas.

Non-story.  I can find a dissenting quote on every topic.  Golf journalism is sad and will construct a conflict and issue for anything to get clicks.  I suspect people triggered by this are very few.  Hard to tell though - people are weird.  But even one really loud person in a mass of thousands of people just quietly going about life is still enough to write a story and manufacture something to chat about.

That was something supposed to be between friends, and not meant for everyone else. People have no business being offended for something that happens between friends if they were never meant to be a part of anyways. If people don’t want to be offended by it, they shouldn’t be concerned about what everyone else is doing. But yes, the media’s reaction is completely predictable in our overly sensitive society nowadays.

My wife is the one that told me about it because she's on Facebook while I am not. She (and I) thought it was hilarious. Both of us are disgusted but not surprised at the fake outrage on social media.

I wish Tiger didn't apologize and instead told people to lighten up 😉

Eh. Not a fan of the prank. Apologizing is the best thing to do to get it done with before it escalate further.

He knows the cameras are on him all the time when he's out there. What they do in private nobody knows or cares about, but he did this in the middle of a tournament, the first for a long time. Seems optimistic if he didn't want anyone but JT to see it. He also had no control over what JT did when he got handed the tampon. You have to assume that it ends up on a camera.

I’m pretty sure he’d tell you that he just took them from JT’s bag

Yeah a bit tone deaf or at best a complete brain fart.

But I am not a fan because this class-clown Uncle Tiger shit rails on his credibility as a serious competitor. He ain't scaring the Rahms and Schefflers. Needs to stop acting like he is playing with house money.

And what's with JT carrying on a full blown silly season bromance at go time? Stop lollygagging and LFG.. jeez.

While I completely stand with my first comment about people being sensitive to things that don’t concern them, I absolutely agree with what you’re saying in that I believe if Tiger really cares about JT’s performance, I am surprised that he’s instigating this sort of thing mid tournament. It’s not like this is “the match” where it’s for fun and charity. At the end of the day, it’s not like what happened, affected any of the other players, so if they’re OK with it then I guess I don’t have room to throw my opinion in there.
But, all said and done I do the same thing with my buddy, despite however, serious our competition may be at the moment, so I’m not one to take my own advice here. 😏

It's just that ruins the greatest calling card of all time in all of sport for me.

I mean he is insisting he wouldn't be out here if didn't think he could win.Tiger of the old would never mess around with this rinky dink BS.

    • I agree that if a lefty swing was reasonable, then that part of the situation is fine. As in, if the ball were pretty close to the bush so that a right handed swing was blocked but far enough away that he had a clear strike at the ball left handed, then I think that's a fair thing to do. But then, as Erik said, assuming that the cart path in question is wide enough to accommodate driving a standard golf cart on it, then NPR is certainly on the desert side of the path. Anyone know what the penalty is for taking an illegal drop in this way (not at the NPR)? One question I have, @iacas said the NPR was probably in the bush. Do you not have to be able to take a reasonable shot from a spot for it to count as a relief point? Assuming the NPR is in the bush, would he be allowed to determine NPR given the lefty swing but then actually drop the ball behind and towards the cart path from the NPR to give himself a right handed shot that wasn't blocked by the bush? Here he would be determining NPR given the proposed lefty shot, but then taking the actual drop in a place where he wouldn't get full relief for the lefty shot. Is that legal. To be more extreme, what if the OB line were 18 inches into the desert from this cart path. If you take relief for a lefty swing, is the NPR OB, since your feet fit in bounds on the desert side of the cart path? Or does OB not count as a relief point so there you'd get to drop on the grass side of the path. Assuming that's true, is it then legal to do what the OP's friend did, which is drop in the grass to get relief from a lefty swing, then set up for a righty swing and take relief again into the fairway?
    • Day 246 (5 Jan 25) - - Super short game session today - 54° at 10-15 yds max.  Real simple - pick a target landing point near the “pin” and get the ball to release toward the same.  Focused on set up and engaging the club’s bounce - the club performed nicely - a few near dunks, one hop in the hole, and lots of finishes inside a 10’ radius of the pin.
    • Day 26: 1/5/2025 I got feedback from Yoda on my swing videos I sent him and he pointed out two things.  First was a direction and amount of a weight shift I've been working on, so I'll have to tweak that a bit.  Second, (This one I was aware of, but I'm glad he pointed it out, that makes me feel like I can at least somewhat self diagnose my problems.) I got a hitch at the top that I've worked on eliminating, or at least reducing, and it's back. The hitch and my hand-path are sort of my perpetual-swing-nemeses.  So, today it's back to the mirror. And lots of slow motion swings. Focusing on direction and volume of a weight shift as well as eliminating the hitch at the top.  I'm excited about where my swing is going. I "feel" like it's improving. Time will tell if feel is real in this case.
    • So, swing wight on a Ping G430 I think is like D0. Lightening the grip by 6 grams will move it one swing weight higher... D1.  Personally, I can't tell the difference of just one swing weight point. Normally it takes 2 or more likely 3 points for me to notice. Others, however, say that they can feel 1/2 of a swing weight point.  I'd probably just leave it, but if you can feel the difference, you could add a 5 gram butt weight. Your other option, of course, is to just replace the rear weight in the B430 head with one that's 2 grams lighter and you will counteract the 1 swing-weight-point. (Rule of thumb: 2 grams in the head = 1 swing weight point. 5 grams in the grip = 1 swing weight point.)  You can google "Ping G430 driver head weights" and get sources to get just about any mass of weight you desire.
    • It probably depends on you. I would say just use the driver for at least a handful of rounds. Give yourself a chance to get acclimated. And see if you notice a difference.
