I had a feeling that this was related to body hair and googled "Bubba top button", sure enough:

“I didn’t like how my chest hair stuck out from the top of my shirts, so I started buttoning them all the way up to the top. Now, everybody recognises me as the guy who buttons his shirts to the top, so it’s just something I do naturally.” - Bubba

It's born from insecurity when he was a teenager and just kept going from there. Now he's stuck with it, if he got caught unbuttoned it would be a social media meltdown.

Men are supposed to be hairy.

I can't stand the combos that Matt Kuchar rolls out. To me, he was equally bad as Jim Furyk but those brutal 5 Hour Energy hats give the "edge" to Jimmy Furyk.

Kuchar is getting better though. He is starting to look more put together. It used to be really bad.

A lot of good points were made but a guy that tops my list is Ernie Els. He dresses like a an old grandpa. I am sure his pants aren't cheap but they look it....kind of Caddyshackesk when they dressed up for the yacht christening . Pleats and old style shoes... I swear he puts on velcro new balance shoes after the round is over...

Largely due to the lack of logos during his day. Logos plastered all over your shirt and hat look stupid, and are just a classless way of making additional bucks. Some pros are worse than others, and the LPGA seems to take it to an extreme. I think Ben Hogan would gag if he saw the way the pros dress today. He was still alive when logos became common, but I think it has gotten worse since he passed away.

His swimming game isn't much better. I saw him in a bright orange bathing suit in a hotel in Montreal. True story!

I hate to keep rehashing threads but dammit Ernie dings my pet peeves... I just don't know why he has to dress like the Skipper from Gilligan's Island... C'mon semi flood pants. black socks and white orthopedic shoes....

Concur, he looks pretty dumpy out there.  I don't think he's ever had a decent apparel contract.  His priorities are elsewhere, I suppose.  Gotta respect that.

Hard to respect someone who looks like a clown if you didn't know them already.

Ernie Els looks fine to me

Of course I am 6'3", outweigh him and have 15 years on him

Now the golf hipster look is too much for me

Golf has always had one of the weirdest dress codes in all of sports.  Payne Stewart raised the bar with the knickers, argyle socks and tam hats.  We inherited some of the weirdness from the Scottish.  Red pants, plaid pants, flowered pants, two tone shoes.  Ricky Fowler pushes the envelope. I think he wears softball pants.  It is now an interesting mix of ultra traditional clothing with some oddball stuff to keep it interesting. What is with all of those white disco belts?

The 1950s set the trend with all of those cool sweaters. I wore than for years. Ben Hogan, and Arnold Palmer were good dressers. So were Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen and Walter Haigen

I think Fowler is a great player and overall good guy, but the high top shoes and jogger pants are jusypt ugly. Combine that with a "King" hat and you have an ugly combination.

Agree. The pants look dumb and the announcers are starting to make fun of them.

Yup, I think that Fowler takes the blue ribbon of the guys on Tour now.  I'd include Daly, but he's so rarely involved any more that he's just a footnote.

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
