I recently said to my pro "I can drive well, I can play good fairway shots, my chipping is good, and putting is excellent" so why is it at best only two of these four things ever happen on the same day ?

That would be the 2/3 rule, which says that of full swing, partial swing and putting only 2 out of three can be good at one time!

playing a course with a slope of 139 tomorrow, so I'm going to really try and beat my handicap rather than break 100. I'll feel pretty good if I do.

My game has gone downhill since May (not that it has far to go...)  I did the May daily challenge and that helped a lot.  This month, I just haven't had the motivation and my game shows.

Golf sucks.  I'm going to take up underwater basket-weaving instead.

couldnt agree more...I fixed one thing, then it causes something else...or I turn back, then not thru the impact enough and it goes open 8-10 degrees...compensate for the no-turn, and it pulls and hooks left...I am surprised that my clubs are still in one piece...

Come on, now, let's turn the attitude train around here. Never gonna get away from 100 wallowing down in the dumps like that. Remember the good shots, and try to learn from the bad ones. ;-)

Venting is good and necessary.  If I don't release it now and then, I throw whiskey bottles at babies holding kittens.

Same here, except I can't ever seem to hit anything... pretty much like my approach shots.

Gotta throw 'em when they're full.  If you wait until they're empty, you can't see straight!

My game has fallen off a cliff since I stopped practicing 3 days a week and playing 3 days a week. With finances right now I'm only able to get out to practice once a week and play one round a week. Just glad to get outside on the course. Don't give a damn about the score. Playing by "recreational rules."

So it has been quite a while since I posted here. The past year I made quite nice progress. Got my handicap down to an unofficial 24.2, but have not been playing to that standard the past few rounds.

My score average for my last 27 rounds (according to Hole19) is 101.7, so I'm getting close to being inside 100 consistently. I'm getting a lot of sub 50 scores on 9 hole rounds, but I rarely get the time to play 18 anymore.

On the up side, I have a new lifetime low score! Well, not new, I made it back on January 3rd. Everything went just right, and the luck was with me that day as I scored an amazing 89!:-D Since then I haven'y gone below 96 on 18, but I scored a 42 on 9, breaking my 9 hole best.

My putting has improved immensely in the last few months, in my last 5 rounds I averaged 1.8 putts per hole, with a low round of 30 putts in my last round a few weeks ago.

As I have a few weeks of holiday before going back to uni, I'll hopefully get in a few more rounds in the next 3 weeks. Going to try and hit the course tomorrow, but it will be cold and windy, so lets see what happens.

Still a proud Breaking Bad Club Member... We should ask them to make us a medal for that!;-)

Shot 96 at The Oaks in Pass Christian MS yesterday.  Only lost 1 ball, which is pretty good for me on that course,  Should have shot better but my putting did not help me much.  Playing same course next Friday so hopefully I can keep the trend of shooting  a stroke or two lower.  Gonna spend some time working on my putting this week....another thing that helped me was that I did not hit my driver any...hit 3W and 3H off the tee...

I played this evening in the heat and wind...wasnt too bad, Carded a 92..a few shots were off center, nothing terrible, +10 on the front and +12 on the back side...no real blowups, just a lil out of sync on most shots..due to not playing as often as i would like...all in all it wasnt a bad outing, other than teh 96F temps...

I have been playing only 10 months, am 58 years old, and regularly play under 100 on a par 74 course. If you want some tips, here they are, but please don't castigate me because I am quite new to the game.

1) Take some lessons

2) Find clubs that feel right for you, regardless of brand

3) A putt counts as shot, the same as a drive, so practice, practice, practice.

4) A drive should be the same swing as a fairway shot.

5) Ensure you follow through with all your shots

6) Shorten your swing a little if it helps

7) Don't just use any old ball. Look for a type that suits you, and stick to it. I like the Bridgestone e6

8) If your not comfortable when addressing the ball, step back.

9) If your slicing your drive, like most beginners do, move your right foot back 6 inches, and close the club head a little.

Of course, there are probably loads more, but these are tips I obtained from lessons and other experienced players

In my bag (Motocaddy Light)

Taylormade Burner driver, Taylormade 4 wood, 3 x Ping Karsten Hybrids, 6-SW Ping Karsten irons with reg flex graphite shafts. Odyssey putter, 20 Bridgestone e6 balls, 2 water balls for the 5th hole, loads of tees, 2 golf gloves, a couple of hand warmers, cleaning towel, 5 ball markers, 2 pitch mark repairers, some aspirin, 3 hats, set of waterproofs, an umbrella, a pair of gaiters, 2 pairs of glasses. Christ, it's amazing I can pick the bloody thing up !!

playing two extremely difficult courses for the first time is not the recipe for record scores.

120 and 104 (par 71).  However the rounds were high because of terrible holes.Put up 4 pars on the 104, many more swings felt good and difficult courses can be tamed with good play.

the random we played with did not believe that I was a 27 handicap, which felt good. Heading back to the home course for more play will help. The next handicap revision will likely see my HI rise, but i'm confident it's the highest it will ever be.

Played tees which were a 136, and there were three sets of tees behind me. Shot a 120, with lots of blowup holes, but some good pars. Posted 2 10s. My ESC was 113. Didn't beat my handicap. But had a lot of fun. Perfect conditions, amazing layout. If I won the lottery, I'd get a membership.

Sorry, was trying to help, but hadn't really thought about that. :8)

Not sure how long I'll be near 17...last 3 rounds have been 100+. Starting to think my short stint in high the 80's a while back was a fluke. I guess I was thinking about realizations in my own game that, no matter how well (or poorly) I'm hitting the ball, my best scores on any given day come when I keep my temper in check and make good decisions.

I must say, though, there certainly are times when whiskey bottle chucking does sound like fun. Like at my home course when I see those damn kids that think the 16th fairway is their backyard. They don't seem to care about golf balls flying at them... wonder if they'd feel the same way about quarts... or do you get better control with pints?! :-P

    • I'm available all of those weekends.   How do I vote?
    • Option one. Would like an ace even if it’s a worm burner. Have witnessed a couple of aces so would like to be on the other end.
    • OK - I think we should narrow down a weekend, and start there.  We're going to try to do this in June. I've created a Doodle poll where everyone can vote for the options that work for them.  Please include your username so I can track/post results. Doodle Doodle is the simplest way to schedule meetings with clients, colleagues, or friends. Find the best time for one-to-ones and team meetings with our user-friendly calendar tool. Get started today! (I only put in the Saturday dates, but assume the outing would include Friday - Sunday). Once we select a date that works for the most people, I'll start to line up courses and schedule and go from there.
    • Option #2 because I'd add the condition that it's in a tournament. Because that'd mean I'd break par in a tournament. And I already have a hole in one.
    • Hole in one is nice, but those low rounds stick in my memory better. I have two holes in one (and a third on a pitch and putt course which I count as a half). I've shot in the 60s three times in the last 10 years or so and I remember each one pretty well. I'd take the low round.
