Good move for Holly?

http://golfweek.com/news/2014/jul/11/holly-sonders-leaves-golf-channel-join-fox-sports/

Sonders is expected to take a job with Fox Sports covering golf and serving as a sideline reporter on NFL games, according to several sources. A Fox spokesman said his network has not yet hired Sonders. Other sources said it is a done deal.

Fox is building its golf production and talent team in anticipation of airing U.S. Golf Association events beginning in 2015.

Sonders was in the midst of contract discussions with Golf Channel and “we didn’t come to terms,” according to a spokesman.

“We wish her the best in her future endeavors,” he said, declining further comment.

Sonders joined Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive” crew in January 2011 and quickly became one of the channel’s biggest stars. She parlayed her popularity on the morning show into regular slots on evening instructional shows such as “Playing Lessons with the Pros” and “School of Golf.”

Some future episodes of those shows already have been produced and have yet to air. But Sonders will not make any more appearances on “Morning Drive.”

Given the fake tits and the name change early in her career, it appears it should have been obvious all along that Holly had her sights set on much more than Golf Channel.

More money, more exposure, good for Holly. That appears to be what she wants. Can't blame her.

Agreed, she maxed out her exposure from GC, it was time for her to take the next step in her career.  It will be interesting to see how she is used by FOX since I wouldn't say she's qualified to do much else than be the Erin Andrews of golf, I can't even see her on the sidelines of NFL games but we'll see.

Career-wise it could be. But she could also just get lost on a channel that has a short attention span.

Good move for her but bummed that I will be watching the old guy give golf tips without the much needed break of Holly.

I think it is probably a good move for Holly.  I have no idea what they were paying her at Golf Channel, but I doubt it was that much, she was one of several faces on Morning Drive which has a pretty small niche audience in the overall scheme of things.  Playing Lessons were mostly Holly Watching opportunities and fluffy filler for when there wasn't a tournament somewhere to broadcast.

I expect she's as competent to play the part of "microphone whisperer" as a lot of the other commentators you see covering various tournaments.  At least she's got some personality and is worth seeing which is more than you can say for some of the retired tour pros that have turned up in the booth (cough... Johny Miller).

That's just plain misogyny. I'm surprised the moderator let it pass.

Stating facts followed by a conclusion that someone was looking to advance her career is misogyny now?

Do you have anything to say about the topic instead of just commenting on others?

I think Holly began in television sans makeover, and it would not surprise me if a consultant advised her to enhance her physique to advance her television career. I remember reading a study back in the Dark Ages of my college years - mid to late 70's - that an audience is more likely to believe and listen to an attractive individual. I think that study still holds in the  Age of Celebrity.

Holly apparently took the advice to her breast (and nose), and acted on it. She has a strong, likable, sparkling personality in front of an audience and knowledge of golf. Whether she can take her talents to more than golf will be entertaining to her golf audience. Can't blame a girl for ambition.

Agreed... Then again there aren't many women on TV that have not gone under the knife for this very same purpose.. Unfortunately for them we live in a society where looks mean everything and the ones that take the high road are the ones end up left behind.. So was she advised to do so? I don't think she needed advice, she knew what she had to do!

    • Couple things to update First on the clubs/ball. I switched golf balls to the Left Dash ProV1x. It seems like a great fit for me. I always need lower spin off the tee, it's about a half club longer into greens, and still gives me enough spin with chips and pitches to hit whatever shot I need. The durability is insane too, played 35 holes with one over my last two rounds and it still looked brand new until I lost it. Hybrid is no longer. Couldn’t quite get a consistent strike and the random snap hook left was always lurking as soon as the strike drifted out towards the toe. I know it was me not the club but I couldn’t stand the lefts anymore. Titliest fitting guy came to our club a few days ago and I had been curious about the T200 3iron. I hit a few with it and the stock HZRDUS graphite shaft, it wasn’t bad at all but I could definitely tell when I mishit it. Then the fitter had me try the U505 3iron. When he asked if I was open to trying it I said something like “Isn’t that the game improvement one?” and he said “Just trust me and hit a few with it”. Within 5 swings I was sold. Suddenly it didn’t look as big and chunky when I started hitting rocket after rocket. It did every single thing I want a 3 iron to do. It flies very high, forgiving, can hit it off the tee and ground, can flight it low when needed, and best of all, it doesn’t go left. He had me try to snap hook one left and it resulted in a nice tight draw, nowhere close to a hook. Tried it with the stock shaft and their upgraded one, ended up hitting it the best with the Graphite Design Tour AD IZ-95. Ended up getting a great deal on a used one that arrived yesterday so going to go measure my numbers with it today at the range. I expect to be using this a lot for 2nd shots into par 5s, being that 230-250 club. Hit some on the Mevo+ yesterday and the distance is exactly what I needed.     From a playing perspective, been playing pretty solid so far this season, driving and putting have been solid overall, approach shots have been good for the most part and short game wasn't great to start the year but it's been getting better lately with some more dedicated practice. Compared to scratch over 7 rounds:
    • so with the driver. Feel more arm  width at A4. keep an in the eye on the ball. The first move from the top is lowering the hands down. Don’t mix that up with looking up at the target as the club comes down from A4 with the body. Feel like I get width with the arms from the chest in the Downswing.

    • Went back and reviewed my rounds this year at my home course to fill out the spreadsheet. Realized I have made at least par on each hole but two that I have bogied. At my skill level, it gives me a new confidence that I can play each hole decently well and strong together a lower score. Great mental boost.
    • I'm at 330 I think. I have a spreadsheet with all of them in it. It helps having lived in two countries. 159 in the US and 136 in the UK. Then a handful in Europe and a few in other countries (Canada, Australia, Mexico).
