Played well today.  Other than the good score, the thing that really stands out to me is my one-way miss.  Except for one stupid swing where I flared a 7-iron on hole 11, every single miss was left.  If I know that the right side is out of the question, I can start aiming over there and actually trust this draw. ;)

Another round where I hit just enough good shots at the right time to do okay.

Seriously, ask @saevel25 - my rounds aren't impressive but I don't have any big misses, really. I'll thin a 6I to the front of a green and get up and down or make a 10-footer here and there, but otherwise you never know I'm making a lot of pars and an occasional birdie.

Kind of the opposite of his usual game… :D

First round with the new irons. Wound up playing the front nine twice because the back was looking way too slow. Pretty steady round with one birdie and one double bogey.

About that double bogey ...

What happened on the tee shot? :-P

(Otherwise, nice round!!)

Pretty much. Erik is a paying member of the boring style of golf. Lots of nGIR, ton of pars ;)

I like to add a little adventure to my golfing round. Hitting an approach shot from another fairway. Leaving myself difficult pitches. :-D

Lol, looks like I forgot to review that hole. The extra shot came from hitting it in the fescue and catching too much grass on back to back approaches.

Played La Purisima in Lompoc. From the blues, the course is a beast at 73.1/136. But when the winds are really blowing (which they almost always are in the afternoon), the course might be one of the toughest in all of SoCal.

Fun fact to illustrate the severity of the winds yesterday: My two best drives were on holes 6 (upwind) and hole 12 (straight downwind). Based on feel and trajectory, I would speculate that I actually hit a slightly better drive on 6. Total distance? Hole 6 - 246 Yards. Hole 12 - 327 yards.

Oh, and then there was the 188 yard 9 iron approach on hole 11. That wasn't a bladed shot, or a crazy sprinkler head bounce. Just a slight flier lie and a huge gust of wind at the wrong time.

Because of the wind, I just couldn't get my approach shots dialed in, and as such, the round felt like a grind. Somehow, I managed to par every single par 3 though.

I have played there many times and played many a round in the fierce winds. A beast is a good description.

Your shot on 17 impressed me. The wind there can play havoc, I have hit everything from Wedge to 4 iron depending on the wind.

Thanks! Yes I can definitely see that on hole 17. We had it estimated at 150 yards on the nose, but you should have seen the mental gymnastics I was trying to do when figuring out which club to pull. With a 50'ish foot descent to the green and about 2 clubs worth of wind in our face, I eventually decided to club up one. I ended up hitting one of my best irons of the day and landed 15 feet from the cup. It was my best birdie chance of the round, by far.

Hard battle out there today. Didn't hit the ball very well and had to lean on my wedge quite a bit to break 80. Had an ugly double bogey coming out of the fescue and a great bogey save on the par 3 where I shanked my tee shot into the hazard. The 4-5 chips and pitches I put into tap in range brought the putting total to 27.

I commented on the round. I hit roughly zero good shots (a good putt, a few good drives). The rest were just "playable."

Yes, it's "nice" to be here, but it's just as frustrating as the 9 handicapper shooting an 82 without hitting any "good" (for them) shots. You're never really happy with where you are…

Picked up a new toy a couple weeks ago and finally had the chance to go out and play with it :)

http://www.gamegolf.com/player/mailman/round/468759

Couple things I liked about last night was playing two of our par 5's as long par 4's and ending up with a couple birdies and a couple 300 yard drives for two  of the three times I pulled out the driver...yay me!!!  :)

Was a little concerned about how putting was handled and how the device would recognise the end of one hole and the start of another but I needn't have worried. Well chuffed with Game Golf as it was pretty accurate for my course. Just need to get a couple photos of the 17th now as it no longer has water flowing through it so I can send off to both Garmin and Game Golf to update their maps.

What I did notice was the times I forgot to tap the belt thingy was when putting. Every other time was fine...and of course adding the missed shots in after the round was a pretty simple matter as well.

Just picked up GameGolf on Friday, played my first round yesterday. Really like the system so far, took a little getting used to and building it into the shot routine though

Couple of heavy irons shots here and there but a very steady round, 14 pars, 3 bogeys and one double bogey. Course was packed and the round took 4:45 to finish but I was paired with a couple of decent fellows so it wasn't too bad.

Ran the Strokes Gained on the round.

Tee Shots: +0.34

Long Shots: -6.32 (half of this came on two shots)

Pitching: -0.5

Bunker: -1.22 (really really tough bunker shot)

Putting: +0.65

If I take those two shots out on the par 5's and replace them with a few average shots. The Long Shots becomes -3.3 which is where it has been recently and I shoot a 39.

Got to stop overthinking the shots. Got to figure out how to recreate that feeling on the last drive. I hit a great straight shot with a slight fade. The downswing felt totally different than what I was doing the whole round.

On a side note. If you try to Tin Cup a shot. I basically just chose to re-hit that 6 iron from the same spot on the 2nd par 5. I gave up half a stroke just to prove I could not hook that 6 iron into the water ;)

This is more like it! Finally have two front and back nines that nearly match each other!!!

Managed to hold things together today in spite of a triple on the first hole and a double on the last hole! The end result being my handicap will now dip below 20 at last!!! :)

First round using GG.. http://www.gamegolf.com/player/abu3baid/round/482319 Hole of the day was a long par 5, birdied it after I hit a 3W pin high on the left fringe. Missed an eagle by a few inches.. I don't think I trust the GG handicap yet though.. I shot 30 over and they have me at 16..

    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
    • This is my opinion as well. I would love to see the LPGA take the lead on this.    This.
    • I agree in general. The one way in which the viewer will notice the pace of play is just that "it's been an hour and Nelly Korda or Scottie Scheffler have only played four holes." Or if for some reason they show a lot of shots of players just standing around when they could be showing golf shots. But I think Andy Johnson said it most recently/best, playing fast is a skill, too. I would love for pro golfers to play faster. You'd see the players you want to see hit more shots in the same time than they do now. So I don't disagree with the pace of play stuff, and hope they can find ways to do it. Heck, the LPGA should leap at the chance to differentiate itself in this way, IMO. So: I stand by what I said in that the TV viewer really doesn't notice much about pace of play. It's rare when they do. I support increasing the pace of play wholeheartedly. But my top five reasons don't include TV ratings or viewership.
