DISCLAIMER: PLAYED ON TEMP GREENS. DID NOT SELECT OPTION TO INCLUDE IN MY STATS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS

So my first "round" of the year was played on a city course not open yet for proper rounds. They are allowing people to walk on though and play to temporary greens. While I dont have a memberhsip here, I'll definitely come back and play a few times for the nice gesture.

Quick notes

  • First round since starting Evolvr back in Feb and love the results im seeing from the driver. I suffered badly from straight pulls for 3-4 OBs/Lost tee shots a round. Im thinking those penalties may be a lot less this year.
  • Was extremely windy so some shots got extremely aided, like my drive on the 1st hole. My 1 penalty tee shot was bad club selection as I thought I had considered the wind enough but still shot the ball through the dogleg and into the trees where I couldnt find it.

Much better round. Still plenty of room for improvement. I left my partial wedge yardage book at home and it might have cost me a stroke or two. I stuck it in my golf bag as soon as I got home.

I didn't blade anything so short game is already 100% improved from last round. It's only a matter of time before I get my touch back and start getting them closer.

Getting more used to the putter, even made a few mid-range putts. I kept thinking the greens were faster than they were and hitting short.

Driving was on and off, but irons were solid.

I've never played this well this early in a season, so hopefully it's a positive sign of things to come.

Decent round today. Had some blowup holes the first time through with a few penalties.

Stats looked good other than the anemic distances I'm getting from the driver. Still, I'll take that over hitting into the woods any day of the week.

Irons: Getting a bit more distance from some changes I've made in my swing plane and wrists on the BS. Struggled a bit with face control which led to a few penalties, but was getting solid strikes. Still not getting weight forward the way I want, but that's nothing new.

Partial Shots: Struggled with direction initially but started to dial that in. Distances were ok.

Short Game & Putting: Better than normal.

Just found this page.... so I will be posting my Game Golf rounds going forward.  To start I will post a round from last week as a test to see if this works.

http://www.gamegolf.com/player/JuanTheGolfer/round/2126554

I have played this short course during Saturday morning scrambles which they have weekly.  We won it a couple of times with scores of 9 and 10 under par for 9 holes. Since it is short it is all about hitting good drives and wedge shots...and putting!  I think there is only 1 or 2 of the five par 4s where after a good drive you will hit more than a wedge in to the green.

I had never played the course using only my ball, and with Spring arriving, the aim points that we used a couple of months ago, were dramatically changed as the trees have filled out.

Hit a lot of good shots for me, and was 5 under on my ball.   I am encourage to again participate in the Saturday or Sunday morning scrambles... they are only 9 holes so I am home by 10:30 at the latest!!   They pay both closest to the pin on the par 3s, as well as for the top teams.  Never get rich, though a fun way to start the weekend.

From yesterday:

Really ugly double bogeys on the back nine (second round). Played pretty solid besides that. I had 6 looks at birdie from within 20 feet, but only converted one of them. Pretty pleased with how I hit the ball. I had two bad full swings all day essentially. I chipped and putted terribly.

Very solid round. Scrambling was the best its probably ever been except for the downhill lie in the bunker on the 2nd hole which lead to a quick double bogey. I wasnt over thinking anything, just stepping up, picking my landing spot/start line and chipping/putting.

Only had 38% fairway accuracy and only 33% GIR, but those are somewhat misleading. I was within 5 feet of the fairway numerous times, and was nGIR pretty much every single hole, including 4 holes where I was on the fringe using putter but technically didnt count as GIR. If you inclue those 4 fringe ones, I would have had 10/18 GIR or 55%.

The high number of fringe putts is one of the reasons I only needed 27 putts for the round, but also managed to hole a few decent length ones on the back 9, one for birdie from the fringe and one for a par save.

Nothing unusual about yesterday's round other than the 95 was a lower score than I thought it would be.

Emerald Vale is one of my favorite courses. It's not the easiest or hardest of the courses I play, but it seems to be a perfect challenge when I play the 6,000 yd white tees. The course has a good combination of trouble to go along with options to avoid it. Lots of decision-mapping going on.

Everything felt out of control or unsynchronized during the round from driver to wedge. Not terribly damaging results (2 penalties total)... just that I felt unable to perform the swing I've been practicing all week and that I wasn't aware of what I was doing... it's hard to explain.

Short game and putting were ok for the second week in a row.

It rained during most of the round and it was cold. I struggled with the swing all day and hit a number of shots fat. Pretty sure I tossed my hybrid at one point. Made the mistake of changing my driver shaft and now I remember why I switched in the first place. Couldn't feel the club at all and hit it everywhere but where I wanted to for the most part. I'm not going to dwell on the full swing results because I'm sure the weather was a factor.

Short game was better. I'm getting better at feeling the backswing length for partial wedges. I hit a couple long because I hit them slightly thin, not because I carried them too long. I actually hit one too short that I wasn't expecting, with my 56°. I hate that club. Around the greens I simplified things - hitting more of a chipping technique whenever possible, going with shorter swings and varying my clubs instead of always using the LW and varying my swing all the time.

Putting was pretty good. I'm getting confident standing over 3-6' putts, and my make % on mid-range putts is going up. Putting isn't going to be a glaring weakness soon and I'm going to have to be more diligent on my reads since I'm hitting my lines more.

I'm not sure where my iron game was today but it was really bad as was my 125 yds-and-in game. I couldn't buy a GIR. When those are off, it's usually bad day. On the up side, it was another mid 90's score just above my index so I can't be terribly upset. Plus, my partner played really well which I'm always glad to see.

Since I wasn't hitting greens, my putting stats really improved (when I don't count the putts from off the green). I don't think I've ever come close to making only 31 putts - and that number includes a 4 putt after a rare GIR. The greens are starting to speed up as the weather warms and that generally makes lag putting a bit easier for me.

Driver was good other than one duff that literally never got off the tee box.

First 18 hole round at my new club; had previously played the front9 twice and would play the back9 differently next time.

Anyhow, my big thing that I have never had to deal with on most of Manitoba's flat courses...

HOW DO YOU HIT OFF DUNEY/ROLLING/SLOPED FAIRWAYS!!!

i literally dont think I've ever had a lost ball/OB on my 2nd shot on a par5, and had 2 today on balls that hit the fairway. Its a whole different topic and one I will have to look up, but I just dont know how to do it on fairways that are shaped like that. The other 2 par5s I landed on normal lies.

Just really hate knowing I had lost ball penalties on shots from the fairway.

Other than that, it was windy, so had some extreme help and handicap on some holes. Wind effect seemed equal though.

Windy. Rained all week so it was swampy out there. Full swing was hit or miss. Short game totally sucked and putting was mediocre. I didn't make anything outside 4' until the last hole, but I just didn't get the ball close enough all round to really give my putter a chance. Just felt like everything was a bit of a grind today.

Not my best. Hit the ball okay. Not great, but would have been okay if I could putt...

27 hole course, played 2 of the 9s last night.

Finally had a night where I loved my driving, besides for 2 slices that crept in. Figured out it was a grip problem on the holes after and adjusted.

My putting though was horrendous....GG said I lost about 6 strokes compared to my handicap level. If anyone has any great distance control putting drills that worked for them, Im game.

Tied most pars ever in a round, most GIRS I have had since playing with GG, and had the best short game and putting round that I can ever remember...and still shot +24. Blow up holes just kill me...and its not game planning or bad decision making its just hitting really bad shanks at weird times, or completely duffing/blading shots into hazards. Frustrated...just not getting better.

Better today. 76. Could have/should have been a 74 or lower with a little better speed on putts.

Played the front nine at my club after a 2 plus hour range session.  Shot 36 which is even par, with 1 bogey and 1 birdie.

My driving distances was not consistent.. the quality of the swing continues to need work.   My approach shots were off a little ... only hit 5/9 GIR. The goal is at least 6 GIR per 9 holes.    Putting was SOLID though I left a couple of birdie putts less than 6 inches short and on line!!

Tomorrow is another day to get better..... Get up and Get Better! :-)

Managed to shoot an even par 72, but it was a very sloppy round. I was wondering when I would play a round like this as I have not been playing or practicing all that much so far this year. Hit a god awful drive on hole #13 that went OB resulting in a double bogey. Didn't putt all that well, hit quite a few loose shots. Good starting point though, I will be able to play and practice just about every day for the next two and a half months.
