I haven't recorded any scores for a couple weeks because I'm trying to stay completely focused on repeating the change I'm working on at home.

I played a longer course on Thursday and thought my score would have been pretty good, so today I decided to see how tracking 9 holes of my short course might affect my concentration.

Full swing irons and putting were pretty good. My 120 yards-and-in game cost me a few greens, however. It was a real weakness today.

I suppose the best thing about today was that I hit two greens with approach shots from terrible lies. One was a 7i from the deep rough, and the other a pitching wedge with the ball resting on a root.

As far as implementing the swing change, I recorded a couple of swings today and the improvement is showing up on the course - just not yet where I'd like to see it. The result seems to be better control of direction... something my game is really in need of.

I played twice this weekend - my real round(s), and swings, in nearly a month.  It didn't go well.

My struggle with the driver continues (far too many shots are weak fades/slices hit with an open club face).  I did hit several solid drives during today's round.  Lots of fat shots today, and typical poor putting.

I should actually get to practice and play every week this month, so I'm hoping to make some improvements in the "easy" stuff at least.

Bad day with the driver, lots of drives way left. Also had a 3-putt, but made two bonus putts for par. Just kind of an off day with the swing, only hit a couple solid shots.

From Thursday. Might have been my best round ever. Kept the tee shots in play, 13/18 GIR, no 3 putts.

Gained .08 strokes compared to scratch golfer with my approach shots for this round, which is significantly better than my average, which is losing 3.36 strokes to scratch on approach shots.

I've added a motion to my preshot routine where I exaggerate the feeling of the flat left wrist at impact and using that along with The Hanger (in practice) has really helped improve my ball striking especially with the irons.

I'm most proud of hole 8. Par 4, 464 yards, which is probably the longest par 4 I've ever played, hit a solid drive right edge of the fairway, had 192 to the middle of the green, slightly uphill, flushed a 6 iron that landed on the green and rolled to pin high, 2 putted for a par.

My shot on 18 was really cool, some workers had pulled up and were waiting on me to hit my shot before they continued through, so a little extra nerves there, and absolutely flushed the 7 iron. Super high flight, dead straight, started just right of the flag where I was aiming and never strayed from the line. Ball stopped within a foot of the ball mark. The workers started clapping

Then to make it even sweeter, I drained the putt for my second birdie of the day!

Not a bad league round.  Kept it mostly in play.  Dropped shots were to hitting my PW extremely clean and a possible flyer lie that I didn't recognize missing the green long and leaving myself a long putt from my short game, then dropped one on a long three putt up and across a slope.  Hole 6 sucked, my 5 iron didn't draw at all so I was behind a tree, I didn't chip well to get out, but when my ball bounced the first time it hit a stray twig embedded in the rough and took a straight right bounce into the water for a penalty stroke.  Then got out and two putt from there.  Last dropped stroke was tee shot on 9 with a 3W, half way through my swing I was not thinking about golf and hit 6 inches behind the ball causing it to only go 50 or so yards.

Parring both par 3s on this course is quite the achievement for me, the green on 4 barely has any legal spots for the flag, and 7 is just a decently long par 3 with a small green and a lot of hazards that you're looking at.  Hole 8 has been a nemesis of mine, but I was more and more comfortable with a swing change I've been working on so I felt good trying to cut the corner of the trees on the left side and got me down sufficiently close to give me a short shot at the green.

I spoke to @amished a few days ago and he and I did some game planning for my four worst holes at my home course.  This season, I had averaged over bogey on those four holes;  three long par-4s and a long par-3.  My new strategy for the par-4s is get the ball in play (no real trouble off the tees if I don't do something super aggressive with my tee shot, which I won't need to do because) and not worry if I can't make it in two:  hit we identified good places to finish my second shot so I can pitch on, change at par, make my bogey or better.

Result today on the par-4s:  two pars and a bogey.  I'm happy on that.  I did go for two of those par-4s in two, but that was a great tee shot leading to being able to hit a hybrid in, and I felt safe doing so because that shot zone is much less dispersion than the 4-wood.

The par-3, we decided I'm going to go for the safe area well short of the green, pitch on, make it a short par-4 where I'd likely make 4s with an occasional 3, take the big trouble and big numbers out of play.  Well, I got the first shot right today, then pitched in for a very-unplanned 2.

Need to figure out how I'll play holes 13 and 14 in the future.  Those give me trouble too.

Strokes gained;  better than a 15 handicap in all categories except putting, which was not worse than a 15 hcp by much, despite missing two very short putts.  But I did nail a 20 footer on #4 and I also two-putted from 54' on #17.

71, level par on my home track. Best round I've ever had - didn't play anywhere like lights out but everything was just solid and I had a few breaks along the way. Took 10% off the driver on pretty much every hole and then played for the middle of the green each time, erring either front or back depending on where the trouble was. Kind of gutted I didn't make par on the easy 16th, which would have seen me in at -1 but I played a poor wedge shot and left myself the wrong side of the ridge, meaning I was never leaving my first putt close to the hole. Thrilled to make some excellent pars on the back nine and the five birdies is a lifetime best that I don't see myself beating in a long while.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

Yep - glad you like it! The photos on the site are amazing as well. It is well worth the hour and a bit drive and is just a class course. Really tough around the greens if you miss in the wrong spots, wind changes daily making every hole play differently (I've taken wedge through 3 wood on one of the par threes), but does reward good play.

As bad as the score is, I'm actually very happy with the night overall. My putting was atrocious, but that's partly because I spent time on the practice green which ended up being significantly slower than the actual greens as well as trying a few adjustments to my stance putting. That said, I was striking the ball a lot better than I have this year.

The tee shot with 4 iron on 12 caught a tree on the corner I was trying to cut, but the strike was great and I hit the line I wanted. The trouble was I needed hybrid to carry the trees and it's broken. Drive on 14 must have rolled right by the hole, it was almost dead in line with the pin just off the back of the green. I chickened out on the chip because the green slopes back to front. Should have been easy bird. Still hitting some pushes/blocks with the driver but starting to get a handle on that. Not much else to say about the round really.

Side note, got my driver regripped with a Pure grip, 2 extra wraps. Feels much more solid in my hands now, old grip was a bit skinny and slick even when it was new.

Good day on the greens, missed a couple makable birdie/eagle putts but speed and line control were really solid today. Missed all the par-3 greens, made some crappy swings out there.

Good round today; shot a 90 on a difficult course (135 slope) that I hadn't played before:

http://www.gamegolf.com/player/Hardspoon/round/2283625

I putted really well today.  Actually no three putts (!) - although that was due in part to a lot of near-misses on greens; I putted from the fringe at least four times.

Hole 16 was a fun hole, and also pretty indicative of my game these days:

You can't see much of the fairway from the tee, so it's blind and you have to trust that you can aim MUCH further right than you think.  I hit a great drive...and then chunk the wedge 50 yards.  Whomp, whomp.

86, good for a 13.9 differential.

I am starting to think my decision to not hit driver on #14 may have been overly defensive and I should consider going with at least a 4-wood, possibly driver, on that hole.  But if I'm pulling driver, it scares me due to all the junk left, and aim far enough right or slice and it's in the junk (which you can't tell on the map, but it goes down into woods and chips).  This may cease to be an issue in a few months if the SuperSpeed turns out to work as advertised, as my drives (non-pulled edition) will go past that wood chip area.

I am also thinking that hole #7 may not need me to hit driver, especially as doing so brings the fairway bunkers into play;  I am thinking of hitting a 4-wood there.  I think I can hit 4-wood 7-iron on that hole.  May try in a practice round if I get out there during the week.

Hole 4, I usually aim my second shot (when I can) to try to end up left of the greenside bunker so I'm hitting into the green over grass.  This may be a holdover from before I was that good at irons and wedges, out of fear of that bunker.  Today's second shot was a pull draw after aiming at the left edge of the bunker.  Going forward, I shouldn't be worried about hitting over that bunker, especially on days where the pin isn't forward, but bringing the left junk into play is bad.

I maintain that hitting less than driver on #13 was good;  today's result was obviously good (3H 3H and I had about a 10' birdie putt, barely missed, easy par), but I don't think that's why.

Crappy day with the driver and putter, hit a bunch of big pushes but somehow managed a decent round. Course played at almost 7100 yards. Iron play was good.

Another crappy day with the driver, got some stuff to work to do. Rough is super thick right now, only way to find your ball is to almost step on it. Most of time you're just trying to hack it out.

I guess the positive thing is I'm getting some good practice with my short game 😉

Felt like a worse round than it ended up being. 7 over after 4, ended up 9 over.  All day long I couldn't putt, made some 4-5 footers, but anything over that I couldn't figure out how to leave it within a foot if it was close, or within 5 feet from far away.  Hole 4 on this course is atrocious though, they need to do something about it as there might be three places on the green that is legal to place a hole.  Today was not one of them.  I think what really threw me off on that hole is that I saw a couple people putt from above the hole and they tapped it 2-3 inches and it rolled 25-30 feet; so I tried to hit it so it would just start to come down the hill on the lines they were hitting but it stopped there leaving tough putt after tough putt.  First time I've 4-putt in a long time...

After that things started clicking again, my swing was controlled on the takeaway and I got my weight going where I needed it to be causing some nice hits.  The 6 iron on 7 was probably one of my best ever.  My long game is coming around, never thought my short game would be a glaring weakness as that's the only "practice" facility at my disposal, I guess I just need more focused practice, better drills, or better technique..

Only like to post rounds with some unique happenings. I would love for someone to post a more extreme windy round than what I played tonight.

What tonight and Friday (Friday was extremely windy, with a 300 yard 3wood...) made me realize that I need some sort of shot for windy days. I felt useless standing on some tee boxes.
