Driver: left toe Fairway woods: left heel Hybrids & Long irons: just inside left heel Short irons & wedges: about center to slightly ahead of center My tendency is to get the ball a little too far forward at times, but I tend to make better contact with the ball forward as opposed to back.

Driver - will record but lately it has been a ball or two past my left foot and I feel like I am open to my target line... best contact and distance ever... crushing it lately + I tee it up a ball above the top of the club almost 3 wood - just at my left toe or inside of it slightly.. I tee the ball down just off the ground Irons - inside left heal a ball or two, but I wonder if it is too much. I might need it I one more ball Wedges - just a little inside of my iron spo, but I dnot feel any different as my legs are closer together anyway!

Driver- off inside of left heel Fairway woods- off logo of shirt Long irons-off left cheek Short irons- middle of my stance Wedges-one ball back of middle I tend to come out shots with early extension so a little back helps me stay down and through better.

Mike is there a particular reason you have your irons and wedges forward of what most people are taught? I do basically what most of the people above do. Driver big toe of left foot, fairway woods just behind left heel, hybrids and long irons a touch forward of center, short irons center, and wedges a touch back of center.

^^^ Ditto. (Unless I'm making an adjustment for an unusual lie or flighting the ball down or something).

I play my driver just inside the left heel and everything else about a half ball back. The only time I move the ball around in my stance is if I'm trying to manufacture a different ball flight. The bottom of my swing is just inside my left heel. That doesn't change based on the length of the club in my hand.

For my irons, I let the bounce of the club determine the ball position.  I try to keep my arms and hands in the same place for every swing (unless I am trying to affect the ball flight).  If you set your club on ground resting on the bounce, the shaft lean will determine where the ball goes.

I stink at finding videos/pictures to help me out so I will try to explain. S tart with a 7-iron. Look at the club, see how if you sit the sole/bounce flat on the ground the shaft naturally leans forward. Do the same with a PW, notice the shaft lean is greater.  And then grab a 4-iron--the shaft is more vertical. If you take the same stance with your hands in the same position, the clubs will naturally shift their position on the ground relative to their bounce/shaft lean.  I let that difference determine where the ball is in my stance.  I'll keep looking to see if I can find something better to explain it.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
