So, I'm in the market for new irons and a new putter this year. I'm going to get an Edel putter but I'm unsure if I should get the irons or putter first. I've had my eyes on getting the Titleist 714 AP1's. I currently use irons from a starter set I bought almost 10 years ago. I believe the 714 AP1's came out in 2013 and IIRC, Titleist introduces new irons every two years. If that's true, I'm wondering if holding off to see if Titleist introduces new irons might be a better plan so as to see if there will be a price drop on 714's. So, what do you think I should do?

From what you describe, get the irons, definitely.  A putter is just a putter, and it should be a much less costly purchase anyway.  Get the irons, and then start thinking about putters.  You don't need a Scotty Cameron or similar to be a good putter.  With some shopping and testing you should be able to find a suitable putter for under $100.  Mine was built from Golfsmith components, and it's the best putter I've ever tried, including Scotty's.

I voted for putter, but I have some bias towards putter as I need a better putter myself.

Poll added.

Yes, Titleist will be coming out with new irons later this year.

A putter is just a putter, and it should be a much less costly purchase anyway.

It's an Edel putter he's talking about, it's as custom as you can get.

Irons and evolvr (if your not already signed up).I'd go with aimpoint before the putter. I could be wrong on that but I think that's the route I'm going to go.

Irons, definitely. Don't get stuck on the AP1s just because you like them now. Try a bunch of different selections and see whats available. Find the club that performs best for you.

Irons. Hands down. Why is this even a question?

Because I can get either/or now and plan on getting both this year and want to see if people think I should wait until Titleist introduces their new irons to see if the AP1's will price drop and get the putter now instead. I also want to see if people think buying the irons now and not waiting to see what Titleist comes out with is a good idea. I probably should go to a place with a FS and try different irons. I would go to the local Golf Galaxy, but I don't trust their simulator.

Definitely try a bunch of things on the FS. You may hit the AP1s best, or something else entirely, and may end up saving a bunch of money. Last time I bought irons, I was looking at a new set of clubs I really liked and thought I would hit well, based on reviews that I read. I ended up buying a previous model from another company and saved over $400 in the process.

I know; that's the rational thing to do, haha.  Maybe I'll be lucky and the AP1's will be the ones I hit best.

However, I'm still not sure if I should wait to see what Titleist comes out with later this year.

@mvmac anyone else), do you know when they're due out?  Is it usually a particular part of the year?

Titleist releases are usually in the 4th quarter of the year.

Oh, so if I waited, I'd be a year before I'd be able to use new irons unless I'm in a warmer climate with my clubs, haha.
