which ball for a beginner

hi I am a beginner but I have had some basic lessons. as I currently do'nt hit the ball very far and take around 55 shots for 9 holes

would using a certain type of ball help me? Any replies are appreciated

I have heard good things about the lower end Titleist balls, Top flgiht Gamers, the Bridgestone E series, and you can also buy last generation tour balls for pretty cheap, aka Srixon Z stars for 30 bucks a dozen right now.

I am a newer golfer and personally love the Calloway Super soft.

The ball has little effect on scoring and you will likely lose quite a few of them. So you're really best off buying a box of Pinnacles and a ball retriever. The Pinnacles will get you around the course and with the ball retriever you can scoop up all kinds of balls with which you can experiment.

Starting out, I used Pinnacle and some of the Wilson balls. It seemed the Wilson balls didn't feel rock hard like a few of the other brands. Back then the Ultra and some DPS (distance plus spin), were around $11 to $15 a dozen. Another +1 on a retriever. You get to try out a lot of different balls. My favorite was finding a brand new ball out in the rough. Enjoy, and welcome to golf, Jack

This. You'll start out losing a LOT of golf balls, and as a beginner you won't notice if a ball is "soft" or has spin to it. Once you start making solid contact consistently is when I would think about the kind of ball you're playing.

Whatever you can find will serve you well enough, and if you play a course with water hazards the ball retriever would allow you to find plenty of balls to use later. Just be mindful to not take too long with it (make sure you don't hold up the group behind you) if you do decide to use one.

This.  When I started I went and got Wilson Ultras at Target.  It was a great decision imo.

The best ball for a beginner is one you don't mind losing because it only cost 10¢ :) EBay can be your best friend OR take out a plastic bag one day and go for a walk around your golf course looking for balls. At this stage the ball will make feck difference to your game. Regards Mailman

Canada cup and starflites  were my first golf balls. Cheap, durable, and not too worrisome over losing them,  Golf is like a lending library.  One goes in the water or forest, and you will find one.  Not always the same. It's of great fun for a lot of golfers to search and find balls.  Treasuring PRO v's  or similar expensive balls for some is as good as playing the game itself.  By and large, I have never noticed a whole big difference between golf balls since most are now two piece.  The only big difference in 41 years of golfing is that I now lose a lot less because I don't hit as far and that includes how far into the woods or fescue they go.

I have an old starflite kicking around here some where. I believe its a one piece ball, carved out of carbonite by the feel of it.

Titleist DT solo is a nice ball to use so much better than the cheap dunlop dhh ball i was using i am also i 20+ handicap

This! It's a well ment tip. When I started playing golf, I bought the cheapest too. No problem hitting a ball in the woods, just drop an other one, don't go searching for the lost ball. No stress hitting that ball twice in the water.

      That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭

      I've been Playing Golf for: 40 yrs My current handicap index or average score is: 4.0 factor My typical ball flight is: Straight however sometimes slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn.       The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
