13 amateurs made it through qualifying this year, most since 2009. Better quality juniors, or just merely an outlier?

Bolds are players you may have heard of. I believe half these golfers on this list are made-up.

I was a little surprised that Saunders didn't get bolded; same with Jamie Lovemark (not Lovermark) and George McNeill. Bryson DeChambeau is a recent NCAA Champion, too.
And your other qualifiers:
Tim O'Neal, if it's the same one I'm thinking of, is probably a known name around these parts. Thanks for putting together the list for us, by the way.

I'll be honest....this is going to be one of the toughest US Opens in recent memory to handicap. I put my Vegas money where my mouth was and took Rory at Liverpool and Valhalla last year and took Jordan at Augusta this year, but I honestly don't have a clue who the heck is going to win the Open this year. I'll probably put a few bucks on Jordan and Dustin just because Jordan's in the top 3 in every tourney he plays and Dustin is long and a solid links player, but who knows. No one knows this course. No one knows what the score may end up being, whether it will play easy or hard in the end.

There's so many question marks. Not to mention there really aren't any "stars" besides Jordan really coming into the US Open playing great. At Augusta, it was the opposite. A lot of the stars went into it in good form. I went on the record and stick to it that I think there are going to be a lot of "Lucas Glovers" in contention this year. Wouldn't surprise me if Kevin Kisner has a medal around his neck in two weeks.

As much as I'd love to see that, he's not exactly going in with a lot of confidence. His game's almost as bad as Tiger's.

Phil has a way of suddenly getting hot though, I think he was T2 in the last two majors no?

Yeah, but from what I've seen of Chamber's Bay, it's a course that Phil can do well in.

No one knows the course better than Jordan's caddie.

Spieth's caddie is Michael Greller, a Gig Harbor resident who caddied at Chambers Bay when the course in University Place opened in 2007. He estimates he's had 50 loops around the course.

It would be a long shot if any golfer who qualifies, or caddie who helps out, will know the nuances of Chambers Bay better than Greller.

Wow, whatever work Holly has had done in the last year or so has not been good to her, IMO.

That course looks like links golf on steroids.

I'd fear that course if there was any significant wind at all. Not sure we will see any this time of year.

Definitely. Great video of Greller here in this article, relates to Chambers Bay.

I'm a Phil fan favorite. I'm kinda liking Spieth and his caddy has some experience on the course. Interesting very interesting. I still like Phil.

After seeing those flyovers, I'd fear that course on the most ideal day you could conjure up!  It looks like a very narrow, technical course and there's not much margin for error anywhere.

As much as I like Phil, I don't see him getting it done at Chambers Bay.  His game hasn't been very hot lately and this looks like a very punishing course.  I like Spieth's chances, especially with his caddy's knowledge of the course.  Rory looks to be the odds-on favorite to win (at 5:1), but three words come to my mind immediately: Royal County Down.

• Day 37, June 10.  Today was primarily WFH, so I had several practice sessions (indoors, off a mat, into the net).  At least one each of U, 9, and 6-iron full swings with the usual priority.   I also tried a few times a putting type stroke with my 4H, as something I should probably learn how to hit (and what it does), but the mechanical shot at home off a mat doesn't tell me much of what it's doing.  That's something I should probably try on a real green, not during a round until I've tried it.
• Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
• Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
• Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
• Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
