They said earlier it's the lowest 9 hole round in US Open history.

Except it isn't.

EDIT--It's tied for lowest.

All the buttheads that said they can't stand the tournament and won't watch anymore are probably still watching.. Chambers Bay provided a change.. and true entertainment which is exactly what Golf is for the viewer.

Eh, the drama was there (and it was fantastic) but the combination of Fox's coverage and the outrageous bounces and rolls the course gave made it pretty frustrating to watch at times. But I certainly wouldn't go as far to say I won't me watching anymore; that's just silly.

Nice top 10 leaderboard.

I scoffed here earlier in week when pundits promised a good leaderboard because they said Chambers Bay will whittle out anyone not at the top of their game- and that only big names will remain in top 10.

I humbly admit I'll never doubt golf pundits again.

Oops: left off Cameron Smith T4

Yeah, but I'm betting no one has won it with a first round of 77 either.

I've played golf in Myrtle several times with a guy who is close friends with Neal Lancaster and was one of his original sponsors.  Lancaster's two 29s in the US Open has to be one of the oddest stats in golf.

That was the most exciting major to watch in recent years.

My favorite will always be the 2012 Open Championship.

Oosthuizen beat Spieth by 8 strokes over the final 3 days. Beat DJ by 12.

Problem is it's a 4 day tourney.

Dustin doesn't appear at awards ceremony; has left the grounds, no interviews.

199 is a record last 54 holes...and No one has ever shot that low the last three days at all ever... So the answer is no... Loren Roberts I think holds the lowest final 54 not to win with 203 in 1994... 29 ties Vijay Singh's second Nine in the second round in 2003... I wanna say it's the first six under 29 in U.S. Open history...
Is 29 a record 9?
I hope Rory crushes Spieth at St. Andrews. That kid really believes he will win all four majors this year. He is not even joking. He really believes it. Crazy.

And his first two rounds were with Fowler and Woods.

A little off topic, but I think David Duval needs to be looked at as a lead analyst. Love his commentary. Maybe when Miller retires.

Again, Neal Lancaster shot 29 twice.  In back-to-back years.  Although I don't know about the -6, I doubt Lancaster did it both times on a Par 34.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
