I would LOVE if the winner was a Todd Hamilton-type.

that's the thing about message boards - no matter what you post, there's always someone who'll disagree.

They are up now

What I can't figure out is why there are 6 slots listed at TBD?

I haven't looked to see if all those qualified are listed in tee times, but I thought the only remaining way to qualify is to be in the OWGR top 60 as of Monday (and to have not be previously qualified) or to get a special exemption (which is unlikely, but could be 1 or 2 at the most).

Players play, tough players win!

Always love looking at the pairings and finding a trend in them but don't really see any this year. You've got US Open veterans paired in Els, Goosen and Ogilvy but that's about all I see. Nothing crazy or unique.

Yeah, I think they could be waiting til Monday to see the OWGR.

There's some good groups. Spieth, Day, and Rose. DJ, Adam Scott, and Sergio. Phil with Bubba. Tiger with Rickie. Will this be streamed online?

Seems odd that the group which tees off Thurs in the morning, then tees off Friday in the afternoon.  But the group that tees off Thursday afternoon, then tees off Friday morning.  One guy gets a long rest but the other is rushed.

I think it has more to do with weather. In some of these tournaments you get situations where weather can consistently be calm in the morning versus the afternoon. Like at The Player's you see a lot more wind in the afternoon than in the morning, especially when the wind shifts from off the ocean.

I'm pretty sure that's how they always do that. No other way really to guarantee everyone plays both morning and afternoon

They really are the most random pairings I've ever seen.

Poor Webb Simpson paired up with Keegan and Kevin Na....hahahahahahaha.

Maybe that was on purpose for the little jab he made about not coming early to play Chambers. B-)

Decent pairings I guess. Doesnt appear much creativity went into them though. I feel bad for Gunn Yang. Always seems he is getting paired with the biggest names. They should put him with no namers and maybe he won't feel as pressured.

Is Simpson known as a fast player?

Since you asked I decided to do some research and found out that Webb is a slow player as well, lol. Perhaps they wanted to group up all the slow quirky players together.

I would hate to be behind that group. Like 4 old ladies at a weekend muni!

That's the first thought that crossed my mind too.  I sure hope that the committee is ready with their stopwatches. :smartass:

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
