A couple of the pairings... USGA site hasn't updated it yet...

What I can't figure out is why there are 6 slots listed at TBD?

I haven't looked to see if all those qualified are listed in tee times, but I thought the only remaining way to qualify is to be in the OWGR top 60 as of Monday (and to have not be previously qualified) or to get a special exemption (which is unlikely, but could be 1 or 2 at the most).

Always love looking at the pairings and finding a trend in them but don't really see any this year. You've got US Open veterans paired in Els, Goosen and Ogilvy but that's about all I see. Nothing crazy or unique.

Yeah, I think they could be waiting til Monday to see the OWGR.

Seems odd that the group which tees off Thurs in the morning, then tees off Friday in the afternoon.  But the group that tees off Thursday afternoon, then tees off Friday morning.  One guy gets a long rest but the other is rushed.

I think it has more to do with weather. In some of these tournaments you get situations where weather can consistently be calm in the morning versus the afternoon. Like at The Player's you see a lot more wind in the afternoon than in the morning, especially when the wind shifts from off the ocean.

There's some good groups. Spieth, Day, and Rose. DJ, Adam Scott, and Sergio. Phil with Bubba. Tiger with Rickie. Will this be streamed online?

The featured groups will be streaming online and on the U.S Open App. Featured Groups for Thursday & Friday(Tee Times Thursday, Friday). Pacific Time. 7:33, 1:33-Angel Cabrera, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson. 8:28, 2:28-Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy, Gunn Yang(A) 2:17, 8:17-Jason Day, Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth 2:28, 8:28-Rickie Fowler, Louis Oosthuizen, Tiger Woods.

I'm pretty sure that's how they always do that. No other way really to guarantee everyone plays both morning and afternoon

They really are the most random pairings I've ever seen.

Poor Webb Simpson paired up with Keegan and Kevin Na....hahahahahahaha.

Maybe that was on purpose for the little jab he made about not coming early to play Chambers. B-)

Decent pairings I guess. Doesnt appear much creativity went into them though. I feel bad for Gunn Yang. Always seems he is getting paired with the biggest names. They should put him with no namers and maybe he won't feel as pressured.

Is Simpson known as a fast player?

Since you asked I decided to do some research and found out that Webb is a slow player as well, lol. Perhaps they wanted to group up all the slow quirky players together.

I would hate to be behind that group. Like 4 old ladies at a weekend muni!

That's the first thought that crossed my mind too.  I sure hope that the committee is ready with their stopwatches. :smartass:

    • Temp 44, damp, cloudy, wind gusting into the upper 20's. Arthritis has the hands so bound up I couldn't even open up a Ziplock bag.  Arthritic spine is killing me. Tee time at 12:34. I'll do my best, but days like this are why I don't even try to track a handicap. I can shoot 78 one day and 108 the next....
    • Here’s a 63 year old woman who doing something similar. She never went to college before, so there is no eligibility issue. Meet the 63-year-old college athlete with a killer golf swing Debbie Blount is a 63-year-old sophomore at Reinhardt University and a beloved member of the women's golf team. As one of the oldest student athletes in the US, her friends call her "Ancient Eagle," after Reinhardt's...
    • Heck, I am 62 and on good days still swing the driver well over 100 mph,  but I am much more consistent with a spinnier 10.5 degree Ping G400 than I am with a 12 degree SLDR. Granted, when I absolutely pound one the SLDR will go further, but not down wind, not enough backspin with the low spin driver to keep it airborne.
    • The pandemic and my surgery screwed things up the past couple years. 2020 ended 12/18/2020, after 9 holes at Washtenaw.  I was feeling poorly and unknown to me, I was going to take an ambulance ride the next morning to the ER.  Fast forward to this year, a buddy and I teed it up at Whispering Willows (Livonia) on March 12.  I was still recovering from surgery but the weather was cooperating so I booked a tee time to see if I could still swing a club.  I could (barely) and so on went the season. Courses start to close down once we hit November.  I will try to keep playing until the ground is frozen, covered with snow or no course will let me play.  I am going to say 12/15 will be that last day and 3/15/2022 will be the dawn of the next season.
    • When I was in my 30's, I used to frequently play a course that was but 6400 yards from the tips, and had some pretty tight holes. I would often, especially on windy days, go all day without pulling a wood. But back then I could actually hit a 1 iron. Set was usually 1,3,5 woods, 1,  3-SW irons, putter. Seldom carried a 2 Iron, really never needed a 2,3 or 4 on that track, even the par 5's would be 1i, 1i  short iron or wedge. Now days I usually carry 1,3,5,7,9 woods and 6-P, gap, sand and lob wedge. I could lose the 3 wood, it's pretty much only used off the tee. But since I got the T300's, the 4 & 5 irons get played in lieu of the 7 & 9 woods on windy days, such as today will be, winds gusting to the high 20's. Tee time at 12:34. Long/mid irons I can actually hit consistently at 62. What a concept. Glad I swallowed my pride and got fitted into these....
