I'm working a half day today and then hitting the golf course.  I'm going to be wearing grey slacks, a red shirt, and white shoes/belt/hat.  I realized that I don't have any grey socks to match these pants, so I'm going with white to match the shoes.  To speed things up from work to the course, I'm already wearing everything except the shoes - which means I have white socks on beneath grey slacks and black shoes.  This is, I already know, ridiculous. I look like Michael Jackson when I'm sitting down.  But I digress ...

Let's hear everybody's fashion ideas in regards to looking good on the course (while wearing slacks).

You shoes, always your shoes.

And your belt should match as close as it can to your shoes as well.

But since you will be on the course, no one will really care.  :)

One another. None of this "one white sock, one black sock" business. Unless you're also mixing and matching shoes. When playing, I try to match my socks to my shoes. I have several pairs of black socks for my black shoes and recently bought four pairs of grey socks for my silver shoes. I use white socks with my white shoes. I don't always follow this rule away from golf, although for work I have two pairs of brown shoes and a pair of black shoes and appropriate socks. It's my sneakers (black) that tend to not match my non-work socks (mostly white).

I try to match my socks to my hybrid head cover. I'm not an uncultured troglodyte, after all. If you have more than one hybrid, go with the highest-numbered hybrid.

Shoes. In case you do not have a match - always go darker. NEVER lighter. Matching belt and hat (in that order) - for extra credit.

EDIT: If you do not have socks that are darker than shoes, PLEASE at least darker than pants.

I believe the socks should match the shoes unless you're over 70, then it doesn't seem to matter.

I can honestly say that the only time I think about the color of my socks is when I have to dress for a business meeting (thankfully, an infrequent occurrence) in which case I make sure to wear black socks.  Other than that, if they're both about the same color I'm good to go.

What should I do with all these white socks I have?

...whatever you want, or nothing at all.  That said, I own only low black and low white socks, and pretty much only wear the black ones cause they're newer.

Should match your undies. So fur or lace. Better to go lace if it's hot out.

I thought it was a fashion foul to wear low socks with slacks.

Is this a trick question?   I grab the 1st pair of socks out of my drawer regardless of color, length, shape, origin of manufacturing, ....   Don't all the men do that?

If I am forced to answer, it should match your feet.   I could not vote b/c my answer isn't listed.

I would agree with that.

I thought it was a fashion foul to wear low socks with slacks.

I don't think so ... seems many of the pros on tour do exactly this.

I've tried it a couple of times but it feels funny to me.  I always wear no-shows (or fairly close to it) when wearing shorts, but I prefer longer socks when wearing pants.

I pretty much hate socks to begin with. I prefer ankle cut or no show socks.

I voted match either the shoes or pants.
