I saw an ad for this golf ball today and after a forum search came up blank, I figured I'd start a thread to discuss it. Callaway Chrome Soft with Truvis Technology Has anyone tried this ball yet? Do the red marks help or are they distracting? I'm already a fan of the Chrome Soft and although the ball looks crazy, I'm thinking it may be a good idea. At least enough to give it a try for a round or 2. Or is it just another golf gimmick??

My local Golfsmith had these out on the putting green for testing putters. I thought they were painted up like this to prevent people from stealing them, thinking why on earth would anyone want to play with balls like this.

I dunno, I can't imagine why turning your golf ball into a soccer ball would help your game, but godspeed to anyone who tries them.

These remind me of the two-color balls that were out a decade or more back, were they made by Ping?

Not sure what the logic is with this ball. Wouldn't it just look pink when spinning at 2000+ rpm?

I picked up a box just now from the PGA Superstore. I'll let you know if I magically shoot 75 next time out with them.

More like TWENTY years back... Hindsight is a great teacher. I learned that the Green/Whites for fine for playing on Muni tracks that were a little burned out in the summer. Hit them and you see the "blink" effect as they flew through the air. Easy to spot on fairway. Take them to a nice upscale course with actual GREEN fairways? Again, highly visible as they blinked during flight... totally useless when they stopped green side up.

Putted with them a PGATSS, and surprisingly, the soccer style golf ball was not a distraction.

The idea behind it is to enhance contrast and depth perception when you are looking at the ball getting ready to hit it. I tried some last week and I think that it works. I liked it for short game shots. In flight it may be a little more visible than a regular white ball, but it is nowhere near as visible as a yellow ball. It was an experiment for me and I will go back to my yellow ball.

I bought a box of them and I did not care for them....I normally game the chrome soft and that ball is amazing.  But the trueviz in the sunlight putting I did not care for it.  The ball was a little easier to find in the tall stuff.  However I did give them to my wife and she loves them but she usually plays with bright pink balls so the bright factor did not bother her.  I did not notice any increased focus but they may work for other people.

I donated money at a disabled veterans event at my course the other day (being one myself) and had the choice of this ball or the standard Chrome Soft white. I look at this ball and thought it was really ugly (to my eye). I went with the white and was glad I did. I didn't want to hear it from the guys I play with.

The idea, as someone else said, is depth perception AT ADDRESS to help hit the ball in the sweet spot. While a white ball is perceived by the brain as somewhat two dimensional, the truvis pattern helps the brain see the ball in full three dimensions.

I have used them and for me at address I can definitely see the truvis ball with better focus than a white ball.

HOWEVER, in the heat of play, one shot after another, I forgot about them and they did not make a difference to my game.

A little harder to find on the fairway.

I like the fact that they make it easy to distinguish your ball versus the other people in your foursome. And the Chrome Soft ball is very nice.

I'm currently carrying a sleeve of these balls in my bag and using them as my "provisional" ball to easily distinguish from my TM Lethal (and to try it out). I've actually put it into play a few times over the last couple rounds and have hit it well. I'm liking it so far. I can't tell if the 'Truvis' technology makes any difference, but I've been hitting it very solid with every swing.

So should i just draw pentagons on my current white balls with a red sharpie?

Yes. But all that extra ink might weigh the ball down!

That's not going to work right. You know, because of wavelengths and stuff.

    • Par is just a guideline, a reference for a hole or a course. At the end of the tournament the player that took less strokes to hole out is the winner, no matter how much it is against the Par of the course.  35 under par is not desirable? then change a few holes par.. make all reachable par 5's as par 4's.  Every hole below 350 is a par 3.. This will make those 7200 courses play "harder" with a par of 66..67.  (Ridiculous, let's just appreciate the amazing game this players have).
    • Didn't Mike Souchak (and possibly others as I'm just going by memory, but I'm pretty sure Souchak was first) shoot a 257 years ago?  It wasn't on a par 73, so it wasn't 35 under, but still.

    • Sounds like you're trying to prune gorse.  Seems as if gorse can actually throw its needles at anyone nearby!
    • BTW - The bush was ugly.  Anyway, in an attempt to add some clarity the ball was under some of the branches of the bush. But the bush was shaped in such a way where a left handed player could have played the shot without hitting any of the branches. A right handed player would have no chance. Thus my buddy/opponent I think was "reasonable" in addressing the ball with a flipped over 7 iron as he could have hit it lefty. .... There was, however, no guarantee that he would get good results as I've actually never seen him try to hit a ball in that manor in all the years I've played with him.
