I am wondering what your average par 3 scores are on a 9 hole course. I used to golf in middle school and over the summer I picked the game back up about 13 years after I stopped playing. I cannot hit my driver straight so I have not even tried to play an 18 hole course, I have stuck to the local par 3 that is by me playing it approximately 10 times. I have hit anywhere from 4 over to 15 over with my median score being around 8 over. Today I played a round and shot 4 over which I am pleased with. I am just curious to know what others here are shooting since I don't play with to many other people.

So every hole on the course is a par 3? Like a pitch and putt.

If you managed to bogey only 4 of the holes for a 4 over, Id say that is great.

Par 3s on a regular course can be a lot more challenging, but on a pitch and putt they are usually flat and errant shots are not too penalized. But its still good to be only 4 over for 9 holes.

yeah at the one that I play in north Texas there are 8 par 3 holes ranging from about 90 yards to 180 yards and 1 par 4 hole that is at 350

I mainly use a 9 and 7 iron off the tee and then chip if need be and putt

there are quiet a bit of small hills around the greens as well as some deep long grass bunkers

I am glad to hear that 4 over is a good score, I am really wanting to have an even round

I play mine which is a  Par 29 with two Par 4s and I've shot anywhere from a +9 to +17 but I'm brand new to golf. The times that I've shot extremely poorly are when I try and use my driver/hybrid/3wood on the tee at the Par 4s and end up in the water to the left or on the next fairway to the right. Those Par 4s will usually end up in an 8 or a 9 if that happens which ruins everything. When I shot +9 recently I was finally able to have a better feel for which irons to use on which holes and even when I ended up wide left or right of the green I was pretty accurate judging the distance. From there I just needed to find a way to make a good pitch or chip. A lot of times I'll end up with a 5 or a 6 on a hole that I actually made a good first shot on because I'll flub a chip and then end up three putting.

I'm curious what the course rating is for this course. My executive is par 31 (Rating 29.6) and I seem to average less than 40 lately. I have the opposite problem, my drives are long and straight but long par 3 holes are really tough, getting on the green in one from 200-170 yards is still really hard for me, I'll pull it left or roll off the back into trouble. 4 over is probably a good score regardless of the rating, you should get out there on a full 72 even if you leave the driver in the bag, it's a ton of fun.

Par 3s are not the "breather holes" people erroneously think they are. They can be downright monsters.

I know this isn't exactly what the OP is asking for but here are some numbers from my Game Golf rounds.

We have besides a 36 holes (par 72 andpar 71) golf course a 9 holes par 27 pitch and putt course. I need to shoot -1 over 18 holes on the p&p; course to play to my handicap. I don't play it very often, because we have to play the first shot from a mat and that's not what I want to practice.

You should be pleased with that score.  Scoring on a par 3 or executive course does not always translate well to a regular length course but your scoring on a par 3 course indicates you have some golf skills.  Work on driving a ball with a driver or 3-wood at the range and you should be set for the big stage.

That's a very nice score for your par 3 course with one par 4. An adjacent city has what they call a par three course that is similar but had 3 short par fours mixed in (3,3,4,4,3,3,3,3,4). A pretty tough little course with lots of trouble so the card has two positions: Blue 30, and White (beginners) 36. If I remember from taking guests the score card is marked that way. OP keep up the good play.

I'm +1.13 on par 3s this year. I look at par 3s as a huge opportunity. I try to get a 5 on each hole so I can think of my score in relation to bogey (90) the way scratch golfers think of par. So for me, a par 3 gives me a chance to make up strokes from elsewhere. I usually wind up with a 4, but a par is a big help. It really depends on the hole though what I consider an average score. A long (170+) par 3 is really tough for me to par, while I'm mad if I get over par on a 130 yarder.

I played a par three about two months ago and scored 2 over par for 9. Best score I can remember getting there. First time I played there in about 30 years. The very slow greens helped I think.

Not had the time or at least not used my time to hone my short game yet. Pretty much a guaranteed bogey unless the green is flat.

I'll go with how @mvmac showed his, although mine is much worse. I have never played a par 3 course so best I can show is how I typically play them. This is for the year, I'm playing them better but still over par. *not a huge surprise since I'm a bogey golfer*

I hate par 3's. From some of the further tees you're forced to make an accurate 200 yard shot while avoiding danger not usually found on other holes. If I walk away with bogey, I'm usually not that upset. You can always look at it as you only have to make one good shot to make birdie but it never works out like that for me.
