In all seriousness equipment can help get the last bit out of your swing. Say 10-15% max. Unfortunately the swing will account for 80% of the equation. The golf ball, is all preference.

I second the rangefinder as having the biggest equipment impact on my game. Next would be appropriate clubs in general. The biggest impact overall didn't have to do with equipment

Someone is going to point this out to you so may as well be me-[CONTENTEMBED=/t/69379/new-to-the-sand-trap-little-things-members-expect-and-ask-of-fellow-members layout=inline][/CONTENTEMBED] As for the question I say a fitted driver is important.

Hey I'm sorry doing this all wrong. I'm learning on the fly and i am not very tech savvy. But really wanted to be apart of this community. I'm trying to learn all the ins and outs but for a guy that doesnt even have Facebook it might take me a little while. And yeah I need to get fitted for a driver.

Definitely range finder for me.

So many holes, and even some range flags are incorrectly labeled.

Knowing your distances = better GIR.

Yep. Eliminating poor club selection can boost anyone's GIR significantly. No worse feeling than hitting an iron flush and watching it sail over the green into trouble or fall short into a bunker. GIR is king

Shag bag and a couple of old towel pieces for targets

Pretty simple gadget

Way better than a driving range for short game

Great place for all the defective ProVs you find on the course. ;-)

The right shafts hands down. No club felt right until I had a shaft fitting. But nothing is first to instruction. Need to know how to use it.

Laser rangefinder. You won't know how far you hit your irons and just how much things like wind and elevation effect your shots until you know exactly what you're hitting at.

Oh, gawd, don't put another rangefinder in the hands of a highcapper if their high cap is caused by their inability to hit fairway woods and irons somewhat consistently.

How many times have we heard 160 to the flag, heck even 145, and it doesn't matter ... it's a waste of time.

Yet hope prevails...

Kind of agree though less abrasively, need to get to a certain skill level before it matters.

Putting aside the Indian and not the arrows and basing it solely on equipment. The right equipment is important that suits you and makes a difference. I have found this to be true of all sports played. Golf has been a bit of a trial and error exercise to find the right blend in my bag. Hybrids awesome have a 20 and 17 degree they come into their own in specific situations where you would need an exceptional iron shot. I love them from the rough when you know grass needs to be taken with the ball. Much smaller change but superstroke putter grips. Always love my putter but the tapered grip on it wasn't keen on. There was always too much movement in my hands. Light grip pressure led to release of the head and I would pull putts left. Switched to a mid slim and it has transformed my feel. I can grip it fairly light but the chunkier grip sits nicely in my left palm. Solid feel. I've gone from average 37 putts to 29 putts in my last round. Agreed it's all about you at the end of the day and good golfer will play well with any stick, but it will enhance any ability you may have.

Getting great instruction helped me the most.

Getting my swing better has improved my game 6-7 strokes.

Lessons helped me the most by far.  I've had access to just about any clubs I wanted, rangefinders, gps watches and training aids for the last 3-4 years but none of them made a difference until I found a good instructor who helped me swing properly and make good ball contact.

If you have a good - great swing then clubs and gadgets will start to make an impact but if you're still struggling with your swing, find a good instructor.

Switching to stiffer shafts helped me hit my good shots a whole lot better, but my bad shots a whole lot worse so while it was a good change it hasn't improved my scores by much. Switching grips however night and day. My clubs had those thin rough textured grips, after many lessons and video analysis with one coach, I took a lesson with a different coach and she immediately tells me my grips are too small.... Change out to medium tour wrap grips and I immediately stopped hitting shots fat, and lost the slice in my 3 wood. Huge difference in scores.

You can't swing something consistently if you can't hold on to it. I went from standard to midsize and it's best equipment decision I have ever made. It is probably also the cheapest of all equipment decisions is have ever made too.

I like to keep it amusing ... other people may find it abrasive ... humor is tough on the internet, among regions of the country, and cultures.

I think a RF is vital once you are somewhat consistent and it actually has practical use. But I encourage others to spend money and assist the economy.

Laser rangefinder for me too. Had a Golf Buddy GPS before (which I lost), then replaced it with a laser recently. Laser works great! Knowing exactly how far it is to the pin (rather than just the center of the green) makes a big difference. I find myself coming up short much less often.

Saw something about single length irons a while back. At first, i thought it was some kind of joke. But the more i thought about it it seemed like a brilliant idea to me. Those really helped your game?

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
