I went out this morning for 9. I only had 6 clubs, carried my bag and did NOT keep score. It was a lot of fun and a great way to start the day.

Shot a 95 today which is about what I normally shoot. Honestly not too mad about the round, started with a quad, and a triple on the first two holes, and the 18th was an island green about 181 out so I dunked one there too. I hit 5 greens and only finished with two pars. My speed on my putts was good, but I cannot read a green to save my life ended up with 38 putts and 3 three putt holes.

43,46 for 89 (adj) yesterday off silver but it wasn't a good round for me. I think I am just working on too much right now, trying to ingrain a few changes. Hopefully, all the effort will pay off and the changes will be worthwhile for my game going forward.

My week last week was literally…

  • Pine Needles: 73
  • Mid-Pines: 73
  • Dormie Club: 73
  • Southern Pines: 73

😛

I need to post them to GHIN. I should have done them on the proper days, but I want to use the "stats" part of GHIN and couldn't bring myself to post them at the time. I'll make myself do them now, though.

Actually just entered my scores and shot 72 at Dormie. That's 1 over so I think I had 73 in my mind for that reason.

And a 72 at Southern Pines, also a par 71. Dammit! 🙂

72 today, best in a while.  Pinehurst #5.  36/36.  3 birdies, 3 bogeys.  Pretty windy down here today.  26 putts, several up and down par savers.

82 today from the back tees. Birdie on the last hole for that 82. Lots of wind. No one in our group broke 80 today, which is unusual.

Shot 79 this morning (70.8/130).  Surprisingly, not many people were out today.  Part of the problem could be it is VERY hard to get through the phone line to get a tee time.  Everyone is calling in for the weekend and other days.  I had to wait 30 minutes on the phone on Sunday to get today's tee time.

This phone-in only tee time is not good for the business, IMHO, as many people simply give up rather than wait 20-40 minutes.

Today, I ended up shooting a respectable 92 at my home course. Thing is, I went +10 for the first fourteen holes, and +10 for the last four. First fourteen holes, two doubles, four pars, a birdie, and seven bogeys. Last four: triple-double-quad-bogey. Probably my best chance of breaking 90 in the last few months, and I completely screwed it up. I was even thinking about getting the breaking 90 achievement coming down the 16th fairway! A poor way to end my three straight days of golf, but my last three rounds have been 92-90-95, so I’m fairly satisfied. My chipping and putting were better, and my ballstriking was great (all except for the last four). My dad came out with me and played for the first time in four months, and he shot a 37 (he only played nine holes)! A double, a bogey and an eagle on the last. Pars everywhere else. I think he would’ve been happy with anything in the 40s or low 50s, let alone just a stroke over par!

after working on a few drills this morning, I went out today and had an atrocious round. 47,54 for 101.  First time I have been over  100 since Sept last year.  I thought in the 90's was bad and then this grenade today.  Penalty after penalty.  Couldn't hit driver, which was the main reason and I was too stubborn to give up on it.  Just when I was having some good rounds too. Taking a few days off.

    • I played in an outing a few years ago. The course was wet, and it was windy. We all did bad enough to reward us with a PCC of +1 (If I am remembering this correctly). So all of our differentials went up 1.  So, if that score is part of my best 8 out of 20. That means I am getting 1/8th of a differential improvement. For you to get a PCC, you need enough people submitting their score for handicap during that day. Let's say you were the only person who was submitting the score for handicap, odds are you are not getting a PCC.  Which is fine, because no handicap system can be that nuanced. I don't think you'd want it to be. Still, my statement is correct. It takes into account weather and abnormal difficult conditions.
    • I’ve been rather surprised how my original question relating to the logic behind “differential vs course handicap” elicited the responses expressed on this thread so far. I suppose it shows that there are many who have given this subject a lot of thought. I personally like the current system for the same reasons stated in the post by saevel25 and it works very well in our league. I just needed to get the reasoning/logic clear in my head so I could explain it succinctly to those who had questions. Regarding the ongoing discussion, the only tweak we make is only the scores made in league competition count. (We don’t use GHIN, we do the calculation ourselves.) The only additional thought I had is perhaps the powers that be can come up with a method, when doing the differential calculation, of giving greater weight to the rounds played more recently than those from 20 rounds ago. I’ve been testing this with an idea I had similar to the way colleges calculate GPA’s based on credits offered by different classes, but honestly, the complexity it adds to the calculation isn’t worth the trouble as any change made has proven to be inconsequential.
