What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

Though the score doesn't reflect it, I probably had one of my best days ever striking the ball. Shot a 93.

But I hit 5 greens, 2 nGIRs, and par'd 8 holes.

Penalties killed me, and I didn't putt particularly well...but it was nice to be able to hit good shots after such a poor round last weekend.

83  ........ but it was ugly!!!! Still fun though!

Rough day putting :  Lip outs on 7, 10, 11, 13; one from 1' (yea those gimmies that we putt out lol)... the others were from 4'- 6'.... I'm usually solid there but not today.

Penalties

5 - unplayable lie

12 - Water hazard

18 - Water hazard

Not mad at the score but didn't really do anything well today...

27 holes of struggle the last two days. Shot a 85 but it was a lot of work to save BOGEY! Driver abandoned me and I was all over the place. Cost me about 7 strokes at least. Bleh.

Small local 9 hole course.

Played +6 (my personal best on that course is +5), so overall it was a pretty good round for me!

par, +2, +2, par, par, par, par, +1, +1 (all par were GIRs)

Those 2 last bogeys really hurt, I would have beaten my personal best.

91 on a par 62. My PR on that course. Should have been in the low 80s. My short game needs tons of work. Progress is progress.

96. Driving is getting better and only had a few penalties overall. Didn't chunk any irons and only hit a few fat shots that came up short. Chipping was a let down. Putting was decent because I have a good feel for the slow greens; namely hit it straight and hard as its not likely to run out much if I am offline.

Brookside Course 1 Blues (72.9/130; 6711 yards): 89 (45/44)

Okay, not great, but at least I'm shooting a bit better than my handicap.

So, on the 15th I needed (felt a need) to pass up a couple so I took an alternate path through the woods. First time I hit my 3i in a long time. 200 yards between trees. I can see why the better players like long irons. My percentage for the shot was like 10%, but I made it for a 3 putt bogey.

Stats from Golflogix: 11 bogeys, 3 doubles, 4 pars (just missed a birdie putt from 4 feet). 15 fairways hit (though short), 3 gir, 10 ngir (15 yards and in) with 3 being within 2 yards. Longest drive 243 (not sure how it calculated that one?). 36 putts.

So, even with my terrible 2 rounds last week, my handicap is hovering around 14.6 according to GolfLogix. Not sure how that was calculated too? I'll update my spreadsheet and see.

Finished double bogey, bogey, and bogey. Had a pretty good round going, but felt tired physically and mentally by 17. I think 16 kind of got me down because I hit my first ball out of bounds. Disappointing but got to keep working on my ball striking. I hit 6 GIR, which I need to improve.

My ball striking and putting have really improved recently, but not necessarily reflected in my score yet.

Normally, I kind of play up or down to the level of the guys Im playing with.

Since Im coming up to a year, I decided to really focus today, and play for score, so I could see where my game's at.

I shot an 89 (43 front 9 and 46 on the back). I've shot a better score a handful of times, but today was the best golf I've ever played (but not the best score).

I had a quadruple bogie that screwed up my score, but every part of my game was really consistent today.

Hit a great drive and approach shot on my +4 hole; took me 6 shots from 50 feet from the pin. Horrific.

But, I drove two 300+ yard greens today. 33 putts which is a personal best. Chipping was on (bought a 60 degree wedge a couple days ago that I absolutely love.

Part of my problem is that Tuesday is a day off and I have a few cold beers and smoke a stogie. By the time I get to the back 9, I'm not as steady. But, In 8o+ degree weather, I love my cold beers while hanging with my buddies. On 11 and 12 I was feeling it. 12 was where I hit the quad.

Stone Canyon: Par72 6633yds...........73.2cr 141slope.

My tee to green game is a disaster.....the new SDLR positively must have the wrong shaft because the ball isn't going anywhere.  After these 2 rounds, I decided to "Park" my new driver until I can go to a proper facility to get fitted for a correct shaft.

I am hitting some fairways, but these are short drives.   Just today.......435yd par4...plays uphill.....I have 209 to a back pin!  WHAT?  Another hole.....385yd par4......I have 146 to a middle pin.   I'm not a big hitter by any stretch, but these are crazy long approaches compared to the norm.  We had some heavy rains recently and the balls were plugging so these yardages are all carry......... but this is completely unacceptable even with carry distances.   I'm a short knocker now.....I definitely need a professional fitting, and I know exactly where I am going.   Stay tuned................

PS...oh yea, my iron game is in the toilet too!  LOL   I'm hitting my wedges tight, but that's about it.  My scrambling has been good.

Same course front 9 shot a 46. It was one of those rounds where I would end up behind a tree and punch/roll my 3i towards the hole and make a lucky up and down. This happened throughout the entire round. I 3 putted and missed a couple 4 foot putts for par. 8 bogeys and 1 double. GolfLogix stats: 6 of 8 FW hit, 0 GIR, 2 nGIR, 19 putts. I flew over a 180 yard par 3 by 30 yards and over a fence for a double bogey. I felt uncomfortable making a 170 yards carry with my 3i and picked my 3H. Wouldn't you know that my shot of the year with that club came along when I only needed 180 yards to the pin. I even choked up an inch on the club.

All in all, it was a terrible round, and I was seriously surprised I broke 50.

I resolve to warm up with at least 100 balls before the round tomorrow.

Walked & shot 49 for the front at Cedar Ridge I started double, triple, triple... It's too bad I wasn't playing baseball. Birdied a short par 3 from the fringe and felt so good about it I 3 putted the next hole. Golf is a funny game

Shot a 91 (47/44) at a local par 72 course (69.2/115) that included an 8-hole bogey streak on the back nine. It was one of my more consistent rounds, but I would have shot at least 5 shots lower if my putting and chipping was better.

    • Taylormade had the Aeroburner mini driver that was 253cc. The only mini driver I have owned. It was a hot beast.
    • Wilson brought out the Killer Whale driver in I think around 1991 - it was around 300cc and looked enormous at the time. I was used to much smaller. Now not so much. I think the appeal of the mini driver is a lot of drivers these days are designed not to turn over. It's hard to hit a controlled draw with them.  For a lot of pros, when they come upon a hole that favors a draw, they don't want to hit their driver because they can't (or won't) draw it. A mini driver can be their draw club and the fact that they can also hit it off the deck means it's not costing them a club in their bag to do that. It's like a mix of a 3 wood and a driver that checks two boxes for one slot in the bag.
    • The fact remains that a lot of people will buy the club. And as I noted, I play with several golfers that have mini drivers. The Callaway one is pretty big, too. It's not 280cc. 280cc is, FWIW, I think about 23cc larger than the Titleist PT driver of yesteryear. The GT 3W is 200cc, so this adds 80cc to that, while still being one of the smaller mini drivers which are often closer to 300cc or just over it.
    • 😁That’s because it’s Golfwrx 🙄…where everyone is a +12, hits is 370, and has unlimited money for new equipment!   Maybe I’ll go over there and say I ordered 12 of them 😁   Gotta keep up with the Jones over there.  As you know there are a couple other sites like that🙄. Niche audience is the perfect phrasing.  Most of the comments so far back that up.
