Hmmmm. Interesting that no one picked Rory to win.

I'll be watching this tournament for the first time to see how the course looks since I last played there about 7 years ago.

Dang, the reality of Tiger's recent surgery just hit home when I didn't see him in the field.  I guess I knew that already.

Also, no Rocco Mediate?  I thought he'd for sure be playing this event.

0:21, ball misses McIlroy by 3 yards maybe? Incoming. He should be pi$$ed. Royally. Screenshot below, this video won't stay up long. Missed the DL list by that much.

Why would you pick Rory to win if he can't even get a top 25 finish? That is pretty bad to not at least make the top 10 in this field.

Pretty sure Steele has a fine coming up after his comment there on the 13th Green, obviously he didn't realise there was a microphone right there lol

I think his exact words were 'Jesus christ, this f...ing game'

Weve all been there Brendan

Wow, very exciting finish! Grillo kept his wits about him after missing that 2 footer for the win on the first playoff hole. How cool is it to win the first event you enter as a Tour member and get sprayed with Champagne on the 18th green? Congrats to Emiliano!

I like Kevin Na, thought this was his, and then he pulls driver on the fairway? with Grillo in the bunker? are you nuts? yes, yes he is.

He probably still would have lost with Grillo making birdie, but still, not a smart play in a big spot, and he can say he would do it again all he wants, go back in time and he knows he pulls 3W instead, that was dumb.

I like the play by Na.  A driver off the deck puts him right of the green in good shape for a birdie.  He had just hit this same shot a few minutes earlier.  Grillo hit a great third shot and made birdie.  Where Na made a mistake was on the forth shot.  He has to get that shot inside Grillo in order to not make the attempt a free run at a two putt.  Na is now ranked 24th in the world and has worked hard to quit being an annoyance.

Watched the replay last night, didn't see it live. Before Na hit Maltbie said he liked the play, because you couldn't hit it left. Then Na yanked it left---

At the interview right after Na said hitting driver was the only way to get far enough up and to the right for the green to open up, and had hit the shot before, had hit several drivers off the deck this week. He said maybe the ball was a little above his feet, maybe it was a little colder, whatever, he just came over over it a little. One of those things.

I enjoy hearing Na in interviews, seems a decent guy, forthright. Just can't watch him play though, too hard to watch even though he has gotten better with the pre shot routine.

Just because you hit a bad shot doesn't mean the right play was the wrong play. You can't apply hindsight to your decision-making or you'd never know what to do: bad ideas that you somehow pull off are encouraged while good ideas executed poorly a fraction of the time are frowned upon. The shot was not good - the decision may have been fine.

I think it was probably the right play. He said he'd do it again.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
