5 days. 8 rounds. You're going to need a lot of BBQ.

Haha, yeah.  We did 6 last year.  Decided to add one more this year.  Then this morning some people were chatting about what to do when we get there and things escalated quickly.  Before I knew it we had two tee times at Tot Hill Farm.  What can I say?  We've been snowed in for a while.

That's my choice, there's really not a great barbecue joint in town.  If you're driving down Route 1 and feeling peckish, you can stop in at Stubbs just south of Sanford.

If you're going to the Pig on a Saturday, you might consider calling ahead to reserve some ribs. Ribs aren't traditionally Carolina-style, but they're pretty dang good.  And if you're hanging out at MidPines after playing, and your cholesterol is OK, think about trying the Buffalo chicken bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers.

Oh man!  I have some Stubb's BBQ sauce in my fridge. Good stuff.  Makes me feel peckish a dozen times during the summer. 😁

Pinehurst Brewing Company has some of the best wings I've ever had. Highly recommended. They're smoked wings and we got the Cheerwine BBQ sauce. Also their Brisket cheeseburger is another great option as well.

I think that Stubbs sauce is from Texas, different from the Stubbs and Sons in NC.  But I agree, its pretty good sauce.  @klineka has another great suggestion, Pinehurst Brewing has very good food.  Its not specifically Eastern Carolina BBQ, but its delicious.  The beers are pretty good too.

All this food talk is making me hungry for breakfast.

Thanks!  We're staying at Mid Pines Wednesday night so I appreciate the rec.

We were going to drive down Thursday and start the trip with Mid Pines in the afternoon and stay at Pinehurst that night.  Starting thinking about driving down the night before so I called Mid Pines to ask what it would cost to stay there for a night.  $247 for a stay and play with 1 night and 2 rounds.   We were already paying $165 to play Mid Pines.  $82 to add a night and a round at Pine Needles?  😍

We're staying at the Manor Inn from Thur to Sun, so that'll definitely be on our list.  We did go last year, when we also stayed at the Manor Inn.

Last nite I talked with our travel agent, first time in a year. Niece getting married this summer a short (4 hrs) drive to Kohler Wisconsin so we booked a flight and will enjoy being with family then we have three days to golf and relax at Kohler. Wonder if we can order all our plumbing fixtures while we are there.

Aloha,

I don't know about ordering, but if you spend an hour at the Plumbing Museum you'll want to renovate your kitchen and bathrooms.  It could end up being a VERY expensive trip.

If you want to go "off reservation" for a meal, I remember having a good Italian dinner at Lino on the waterfront in downtown Sheboygan.

Great choices but I'd rather stay home and play Lake Padden. 😁

Will check out the museum and Lino, Thanks! We are building a new home, this week I rented a mini ex and am digging the footings and placing the forms, next week the rebar comes in, hopefully we pour in a few weeks. So we are looking for a whole home plumbing purchase.

I am looking forward to a golf trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. There are a number of beautiful courses to play. Have played there several times before.

    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
