Mark left by flyer lie.

So this is what the blimp looks like grounded.

I'm walkin' here!

Merritt didn't look pretty, but he was so close. He knocked it closer to the pin than Day did on that hole.

I was there Saturday for the Birdies & BBQ. Aside from the rain I really enjoyed it. I was standing right under the tree on #8 that Fathauer hit into in his drive. I was literally right in front of Day, Rose and Stenson on their tee shots on #9. It's been awhile since I was at a tournament and Erik is so right. Their ball striking is amazing. Watching Day, Stenson and Rose swing up close in real life real was awesome. The speed, fluidity and power was just fantastic. Anyway, saw all the big names that were there and really had a good time.

I know I've said this before, but every time I see Kevin Chappell, I see Dustin Johnson. The two could easily pass as brothers.

Oh I agree, and have said so on multiple occasions.

Ok just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy lol Reason I brought it up is I was watching with my dad today and he never heard of Kevin Chappell before and he said he actually thought it was Dustin Johnson until they showed the name "Kevin Chappell" on the screen.

I found it odd that Johnny Miller posed this question to Roger Maltbie on Saturday: “Does Jason (Day) work the ball much, Roger, or is it pretty straight?”

Maltbie informed him “there’s not a lot of curvature in his ball flight.”

I see a little resemblance in the facial features of KC and DJ, but their swings are so different, KC, no bowing at the top and DJ's hands way higher at the top and he's much taller and more lithe, it's obvious to me they're different, I'm not really looking at faces, but golf swing.

I noticed that mark on Day's ball during the broadcast.  It is UNREAL.  I have NEVER compressed a ball enough to create a 3/4" diameter perfect circle grass stain.  That is freaking nuts when you think of the clubhead speed necessary to do that.  Wow.

Strokes Gained Data for the top 5

The top 3 had strokes gained in the top 5 for strokes gained tee-to-green for the week. Even averaging +2.4 strokes gained per round over the field in putting it was Troy Merrit's long game that hurt him on the last hole with that water ball.

maybe this has been addressed elsewhere already:

on #14 (Par 3) in the final round, Day's approach was short and left of the green, and Merritt was in the LH greenside bunker. from an awkward stance, Day chips up to about 6" (or close to that), and doesn't mark his ball before Merritt holes his bunker shot for a birdie.

my question - why didn't Day mark his ball? he's up 1 at that point (maybe two? i forget exactly) and by leaving his ball on the green so close to the hole, he effectively gives Merritt a "backstop" for his shot. was it gamesmanship? mental lapse? am i reading too much into this?

I don't think it is that uncommon. Just that longer and lusher rough making its mark.

Back at Bay Hill in Orlando. This is usually a good tournament to watch. I really like the finishing hole too.

If you ever get a chance to play The Castle Course at Northern Bay in Central Wisconsin, they have a few replica hôles, and 18 there is a duplicate of 18 at Bay Hill.

Seeing it yesterday on TV, and having played Northern Bay, it seemed like I was (almost) there myself. Especially when I saw balls go in the drink. I've done that plenty.

It sounds intimidating but I would love to try!

I've been playing golf for almost 30 years.  I play with pros.  I have never seen anything like that.  What it takes in square contact and clubhead speed is almost beyond comprehension.

Don't get me wrong, I've hit some pretty amazing shots out of thick, lush rough but never made more than a little dot of a grass stain.

I hit a lot of balls out in a baseball field that isn't mowed regularly enough and see plenty of this. I'm coming from personal experience.

Ok, I was measured at 119, 15 years ago and never did this.  And have played with many much longer than me and never saw it.

I would contend very few people in the world could have imparted that mark on the ball.  You may well be one of those few.

I thought this shot by Merritt was really cool. I wonder if there is more attached risk than it looks as it looked like it barely cleared the lip, maybe by a couple of yards at most.

Common practice, you are reading too much into it.

Show us a picture of these plenty of balls from personal experience, not buying it.
