Best Shoes for walking

Hey all,

I am in the market for a new pair of shoes.  I have been always had FJs and like them but as I get older my current shoes are less than desirable for walking 18 holes.  My feet get more tired walking 18 holes than they do hiking Idaho trails.  When hiking I wear Hoka shoes.  Any suggestions on a traditional looking pair of shoes that offer comfort and support?

I totally agree!!  I will say, though, that when I wear my Senseis to work and park in the gravel driveway in back, it's not a very comfortable walk to the front door.  Minimalist shoes are made for softer surfaces than jagged gravel. :P

I hike a lot of trails myself. My hiking boots work just as well on fairways, roughs,  and greens. It' all about comfort for me when golfing.

I bought a pair of Ashworth Kingston shoes a couple of years back from my pro shop.  They're pretty traditional looking saddle shoes, replaceable spikes, waterproof, and very comfortable.  They're discontinued now by Ashworth, but I just picked up a pair from Amazon for $60.  The size runs essentially the same as FootJoy.

I'll agree with the @saevel25, the True shoes are really comfortable, but they're not quite as traditional a look.

Thanks everyone -- I actually saw one shoe in the True Motion that look nice.  I will need to get approval from my 11 year old daughter.

I have been a FootJoy guy for 40 years. I have had some foot issues the last few years, and have tried most major brands looking for a solution. The results have been tolerable at best. Last week I got a pair of FootJoy Versaluxe, and they are the most comfortable golf shoe I have ever worn. My feet feel great after walking, and that is a feeling I haven't had for years.

I am 67, love to walk, have knee troubles, but I have had no issues wearing my FootJoy Contour Casuals.  They are very comfortable, provide good shock absorption and firm traction.

Try going to "Roadrunner" , it's a runners store, they make custom insoles-inserts as well as selling running shoes and related stuff. Feet are different, what works for me might not be comfortable for someone else. Custom insoles might be the ticket.

I imagine other companies make custom insoles-inserts  too

Lots of True fans on this site since their inception - loyalty even though the last 2 years ... not so great imho.

Comfort is relative to your feet and the shoe. You need to try on several. I once bought True almost everytime they had a sale. But they are wide in the forefoot and my feet, even though a D width, floated around and knocked up a bruise in my big toe. Probably could have resolved it with a more supportive insole.

I've since gone to spikeless in Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 and the Hybrid 2 in GTX (goretex). They also have a spike design that is comfortable that is the Biom Lace - very comfortable/supportive and on sale now (not $240, but found at $135). The last and design of the Biom Lines are based on analysis of over 2500 athletes. It is a minimalist shoe in the vein of True and I find Ecco more comfortable and supportive. But everyone is different. You do need to look at sizing and try on before you buy (like any shoe).

Adidas is also a leader in shoe design. They have an Asym Energy Shoe, whre the design is different for the right and left shoe because they play different roles in the golf swing. The sole is a combo of spikeless and small spikes. Comfy/Suppotaive. I've seen them for $175. Adidas is another shoe that you need to try on for fit. Size within the Adidas line differs. You need to watch the toe box as it is not as wide as the shoes above.

Nike and Puma also have their fans. Lots of shoes on sale. Deals are relative, though. It's what fits your feet and allows you to feel the greens.

I like the Dryjoy Tours. They are comfortable, supportive, give good traction and waterproof. During the round I'm not even aware of my feet which says it all.

I recently bought a pair of Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 spikeless. I went spikeless last year with a pair of Pumas, very comfortable, but they discontinued the model. This year Puma added an inch to the toe and made my feet look too big. $40 more for the Eccos not to have the extra inch I didn't need.

Foot Joy doesn't leave my feet feeling joyous.

I'd recommend buying shoes at the end of the day. Best time to buy a pair of shoes is after you've played a round.
