I see John Senden just finished his round with a 65 to finish early at -1.

Less than 2 weeks ago, he and his young son came up to the range around 6 pm next to me. He lives in the nearby golf course community, and the range is nothing but sand and twigs of grass. We needed the 4 inches of rain that we are now getting. His son would hit a few minutes and he'd say something to him for guidance. I'm trying to watching his rhythm/tempo without being a bother. Even in those garbage lies, he chunked a few wedges. Gave me hope momentarily that my chunking in that gunk was somewhat excusable.

Does this mean the people who dismiss Branden Grace at majors because he's never won anything on this continent will need to find a new rationale?

I think it means Branden is maturing as a player that can handle a lead. If the audience dismisses him, they do so at their peril.

Grace is on the same level as Oosthuizen, maybe better. Very capable of being a threat to win major championships moving forward. This win will likely move him to the top10 in the world.

Certainly.  But he's already been a threat.  He was one lost tee shot (on the 70th hole) away from the US Open just last year.

I feel like Oosthuizen could be the number-one player in the world if he ever wanted to work for it, so that's quite a boast.

Oosthuizen could be number one if he could putt and stay healthy. Those have been his biggest nemesis' the last 5 years. Grace's talent level, like Louis', is up there, though. Both those guys have the game to win majors. Grace posted two 3rds in the majors last year and is only getting better with age.

I didn't realize Oosthuizen is going to be 34 this year.  The clock's is ticking...or maybe he just wants to be like Miguel Angel and just:

Grace is thinking (in Maxwell Smart's voice), missed The Masters by that much.

I dunno, what I saw of the telecast was pretty much the same as most every other week, we all know The Masters telecast is pretty darn stodgy.

Good article. Thankfully over here we didn't have so much of the painful CBS Augusta coverage as there was lots of cutting back to the studio for these sorts of insights. The RBC was much easier to watch and enjoy though, even if it didn't have that compelling finish. Still a bit gutted for Donald, but Grace played the best over the four days and definitely deserved it.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

I drove up to Hilton Head and attended the Saturday round.   My favorite part of attending a golf tournament is watching the guys warm up on the driving range.   I watched Jason Day warm up.   These pro golfers are just incredible.   Incredible.

Saturday was really crowded.   I went to this tournament a year ago, and it wasn't that crowded.

Man, there were some smoking hot girls at that tournament.

Really looking forward to attending The Players Championship here in Jacksonville.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
