Yup.  The tweets tend to show how a lot of players don't have a good understanding of some of the rules.

As they say, if you're gonna play the game (especially at that level), you've gotta know the rules.

Remember when Q-School had a "school" component to it?

Just some of my take: I was there Wednesday and yesterday, stood right next to Colin Montgomery for a little while by 9 green and he is A LOT less heavy in person than he appears on tv. It was od

My dad picked up me up at 9am this morning.  We wanted to wait until rush hour had died down.  Today, no parking pass.  So we parked at the Pittsburgh Mills mall and took the shuttle to Oakmont. I mea

Ok.  Credit where it's due.  I've gotta commend Fox on their camera work following Paulina walking with DJ to the scorer's tent...

Well players always defend players when it comes to rules. It's to be expected. The problem the USGA made is not making a decision. Now it's public knowledge and it's setting itself up for post-round controversy. They should have made a final decision then and there.

Yeah, unless it's a rule that they player has to be able to see it and be allowed to dispute it after viewing it, not sure why they just didn't rule on it and move on.  DJ's causing this because he's taking advantage of the situation that's being presented to him.

The fact that this many viewers, players, commentators, media personnel, etc are bitching about this has to make the USGA realize they messed up.

No?  Do you expect the "bitching" about it you're hearing is a representative sample of opinions?  I would expect people who agree with it to be a lot less vocal.

Fox is really off to a bad start hosting these things. Crap ass course conditions last year and now this debacle. Eesh.

Meh disagree with that. I think you would have more of a debate from media personnel. Golf Digest is having a field day, as are some GC guys and obviously Fox.

I dunno, seems like he's been playing pretty poorly since he was informed of the possible penalty

After the latest viewing of the close up video I think he shouldn't be penalized.

Therefore, in tandem with that, I'm of the opinion that the USGA is (or already has) screwing this up.

Hopwfully DJ wins by a couple to make it a moot point.

Silly to show other players tweets. Who cares what a bunch of twenty something teenie boppers think. The adults will make the decision.

Yeah, but I think he'd be unnerved if he was informed that he was getting a penalty, too.

I've never in my life wanted a player to hit a hole in one than I want DJ to right here lol. And if it wouldn't incur a penalty... flip the bird at the nearest rules official

    • The only times I really get ticked about hitting a third shot is if I'm still closer to the tee box than I am the green.
    • Day 80 (6/24/21) -   Chipping and Putting Practice - spent about 20 minutes on the practice green with my 58* wedge spot chipping to a target (my folded golf towel) 2,3 and 4 paces from the edge of the green, then hit 3 chips each to various holes trying to get the ball to within 4 feet of the hole (which I did about half the time). Then practiced lag putting, 3 balls each to different holes trying to get within 4 feet of the hole, which I did around 2/3s of the time.  Range practice - 9-3 swings using my 7 and 8 iron and a noodle station; small bucket. Focused on keeping the club face facing the ground on the downswing and making good contact.
    • Best part about this pit stop is that they did more than the pit stops in the videos above. Not only did they change the tires, they also adjusted the front wing at the same time on both sides. All in under 2 seconds still.
    • If it was about skill, and if the green reading books made bad putters better than they otherwise would perform, we'd see the worst putters on tour being closer to the best putters because there is less of a skill gap between the two. Instead we see that the gap between the best and the worst at putting has only grown larger since the widespread introduction of green reading books. This means they have not had any measurable impact on a player's ability to putt well, because it isn't allowing the worst putters on tour to keep up with the best like you would see if some part of the game took less skill suddenly. I ignored the skill issue because claiming it's a matter of skill is patently ridiculous, and provably false. They can say whatever they like, doesn't mean a word of it is true.
    • I have been thinking of this for a bit now and it happened to me yesterday, where I hit only 2 of 4 par-5s in regulation.   I am not sure what a realistic expectation for me should be.  I feel I should be able to make routine pars on these, or at least routine GIRs.  I try (I am not always successful, but I generally try) to not go for a pin from outside of 80 yards, focusing instead on getting on the green.  But even with that, maybe I should think more about what a realistic expectation for me on a par-5 is. I am always happy with a GIR.  Yesterday I hit 6 GIR, I don't think I was inside 25 feet on any of them, and I played those six holes in a total of +1.  I think that's a pretty good outcome for 6 GIRs, especially since I didn't make any of the birdie putts (which, again, were all low probability anyway).
