indoor range session working on the faults that haven't been ironed out from yesterday's rounds. Real progress being made, but as always with this bitter mistress, slowly and with the odd regression.

Played 9 holes yesterday. Struggling with a leftward tee shot right now. It doesn't feel like the unsteady head drop back flippy hook I struggled with a last year. It just yanking them left, slight pull draws.

I might need to focus more on starting the ball on the line I want.

I was supposed to have a lesson today but I had to reschedule it for next week due to sick kiddo and nobody to watch him during my lesson time.  I managed to get out to the range, though, for a medium bucket.

I warmed up with some stretching (I never used to do this but now I need to, lol) and then some wedges.  I really am keen to increase my driver carry so I alternated 10 drivers with 10 short irons through the bucket.  My consistency is better but my max carry distance is basically the same.  I got one to go to the 215 marker - the rest land right around 200-205.  The way that range is, you're always hitting into the wind - so all those drives were straight into a 5-10mph wind . .but I still think I should be able to carry them farther.

I'm still confused between arms and core in the downswing so I experimented with that a bit.  More core = more distance but it's easy for me to "lock up" the rest of me at the same time and then I'd get less distance and/or hit it offline.  If it were possible for me to somehow flex my core as much as possible but totally *not* flex anything else . .that would be great.

Worked on A1-A4 straight back mapping and staying centered.

Played 18 yesterday, shot 87 played ok... Inside 75 still needs work...Unlike @WUTiger I'm not busted because I posted yesterday...

I, however found out I'm absolutely lethal with a PW from 115-125 yards... On 3, had 119 yards to the flag and hit a PW to 10 inches! I had a couple more inside 10 feet.

This means that for the Sweet 16 club mix, the PW should always remain in your bag...

Agreed, don't ever change it and fit all your other clubs based upon that one! Keep it even if it only has half a groove left! :-D

Played 18 yesterday. We waited a lot and I stiffened up. Did some of my mapping while waiting.

I've got new stuff to work on via Evolvr. Excited to start working on it.

Worked on 3/4 swings and getting that feeling down with all of my irons and wedges. Trying to be just straight up lethal with all of my irons. I feel I stay in better balance, and the ball starts right on line.

Played a practice 9. Utterly frustrated with the driver. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't stop slicing. Something wrong with my set up... Range time Monday to fix that $41t... Talk about wearing me out...

I've already double-busted on posting, so no June "5M" medallion for me. So, I want to be ready for July.

Today I practiced drives. It seems I vary my posture at set-up, and this causes me consistency problems. One drill: put alignment stick in ground at 45* angle upward, about a foot behind the ball. On proper take-away, the clubhead comes inside the ball. (Product of proper shoulder turn)

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
