I am sorry but these type of lists bug me.  Right, every golfer should have the money to fly to Nepal, Mauritius, etc...to play golf.  Further, let's put a few virtually impossible plays for almost everyone in there (Augusta National, Pine Valley, etc...). It is a nice list and if I am ever in Mauritius, I will make it a point to rent some clubs and play.

I'm surprised Wolf Creek is a choice, it's not by any means "incredible"

It is a very scenic course carved through desert terrain in Mesquite, NV.

I've played Royal PortRush, it fits the bill of being incredible along with a few other courses in Ireland.

I've played Shinnecock and plan to play Port Royal, Bermuda on vacation in August.

Agree.  Not even sure that Sawgrass would qualify.  They're the only 2 I've played.

Silliness really, since many (most?) are completely outside the realm of possibility for 99.9% of the golfers out there.

Let me guess... they all have tee boxes, fairways, greens, rough, hazards and out of bounds.

Some of those courses do look pretty cool, but I just can't pay that much simply for a better view. There's a course 30 mins from my house that has made some top 100 lists and I little desire to play it.

I've been lucky enough to play a few of these.  The Old Course at St Andrews is the one I agree with, without reservations.  Its simply an incredible experience.  Port Royal in Bermuda is nice, but not incredible.  Makai Princeville was the second best course in Princeville, until the Prince Course was closed for redevelopment.  Ballybunion is really good, but I prefer Lahinch if you're in that neighborhood.  The private courses, Pine Valley, Augusta, Shinnecock, they may be great, but the list kind of implies we have a chance, and I know I don't.  But lists get people talking, brings eyes to the website, and that's really the goal of any writer, so this list apparently works as planned.

Agreed.

I think they only do it to expose more pages, more ads over more time.

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

Yes, you can only reflect on the courses you can play. And having played Pebble Beach and Turnberry, I urge any golfer with the means to travel to go to King island off Australia and play their equal - Cape Wickham. While there play Ocean Dunes which is 5 minutes away and then a short flight to Barnbougle Dunes and its little brother Lost Farm. All just awesome. And all publicly accessible.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
