This can be big medicine at private-equity clubs. My former boss was a member at Bellerive CC in St. Louis, and he was put on probation for 6 months for leaving his shirttail out on a 100° F day.

Vg, if you leave your shirttail out when wearing cargo shorts... your picture might end up on a milk carton!

I am going to a private club tomorrow.... I don't know if I should chance it... Hate to be black balled...

Asking peopel not to play in jeans is really just saving them from themselves. Who on earth would do that.

I think men look like idiots in shorts, but I'm ok with someone wearing nice ones on the course

I know a couple guys who will golf in jeans. I never would, although I rarely wear jeans to being with. However, early morning in early April or late October can be quite cold, so I understand the reasoning!

The only reason I can see not to wear jeans on the course is that they're kind of restrictive (at least the way I wear them.)  Otherwise, it's all just fabric meant to hide your shame (yeah, yours, not mine... my hands are huge ;-)) and it doesn't really matter to me.

I played Penobscot Valley CC in Orono Maine (used to be a private course), last Friday.  I get out of my car and one of my fathers friends (they were both policeman and I took his daughter to the Junior Prom) was sitting in his cart right across from where I parked.

He had on jean cutoff shorts, a white tee shirt with red suspenders and was wearing a gun.  It was too funny.  :-D

Curious what you wear when golfing and how hot it is there.

In Mass it can get in high 90's in the summer and I wouldn't even think of wearing pants period.

Shorts all day every day.

golf pants and collard golf shirt, temps get over 105 with crazy high humidity in the summer.

Personally I find jeans to be very uncomfortable and restrictive, which would make them bad for golf.

Heat indexes here in Bama through the summer are routinely 105.  As I walk and carry, if I wore pants, they'd find me dead in the 5th fairway looking like I'd fallen into a lake.  Okay....maybe 'in the fairway' is a stretch.  ;-)  Likely the left greenside bunker.

Golf shorts 6 months out of the year, for me.  And the moisture-wicking golf apparel branded ones.  Maybe they have pants that material...I dunno.

Fair enough - to each his own.  I'm fortunate the norm here at my home CC (in mid summer) is shorts.  We have a collar, tuck & belt rule to keep a tidy look, but if shorts are the norm, when in Rome...

WOW 105 and pants is tough to fathom.  I would never wear jeans to the course but have seen it a few times.

Like most here, a nice collard golf shirt, dress shorts and soft spike shoes is all one needs to look nice, be comfy and have some fun.

pants are not a rule at my club, it's just my personal preference.

actually it's 106 right now with heat index of 121. i'd STILL go out in pants.

It depends on the course and the weather for me. If I'm walking at a crappy course and its hot outside I might wear a t shirt and shorts. However if I'm in a cart and on a nicer course I almost always wear a polo with dress pants.

I wear jeans to play during most of the "off" season (and for virtually everything else too).  If it's too cold for shorts, then I'll usually be in jeans.  There is nothing restrictive about them if you actually buy sensibly.  I wear mostly Wrangler relaxed fit.

If you buy the rather impractical skinny fit style, then of course you won't be able to move in them.  Those are "urban" jeans.  You wouldn't catch a farmer or rancher wearing anything that he can't move freely in.

One more little peeve before I go away.  "Collard" is a type of vegetable, mostly eaten in the south, i.e. "Collard greens".  Shirts are "collared".

    • Someone get Ted Scott on a plane!
    • I'll poke a dead horse here. I like chipping, always have. However, if its a relatively clean roll I'll putt. I choke down just a bit, in my head I'm taking a little flex out of the shaft seems to stay on line better because I usually need to give it some horsepower to get it rolling good. I had about a 20 yard or so chip in to save par the other night in league night. That was the end of my 4 hole even par stretch. All down hill after that.

    • This is a relevant topic, beyond the statistical nonsense. Generally, if I can use a putter and the grass is not long or uneven, I believe my results are better with the putter than another club.  Some of the green aprons, when dry, are virtually like a slightly slower green. There are other players who swear they get better results chipping from eerywhere other than the green. I suspect a short game guru has studied this and has a general recommendation.
