For alternate shot, could the team just use one persons tags?

It doesn't work that way anyway. It's not Live on the Internet.

It really doesn't matter that much to me since I hope to be playing and not spectating, but for the record, I was thinking of something a lot simpler and more primitive than what I think others seem to be envisioning.  I remember last year @RandallT was doing some "live-ish" scoring right here on tst as best as he could with the info he had at his fingertips.  Mostly tweets from Erik and Mike, I think.

If I had Randall's phone number in my phone then, I could have just texted him a photo of the scorecard on the steering wheel of the cart whenever I had a free minute.  Could end up being every couple of holes or could be only once or twice during the whole round.

This isn't the kind of event for live scoring and I feel like we did a pretty good job of keeping everyone updated on Twitter.

You'll hopefully have some time for spectating when you win your matches on the 10th hole ;-)

If @RandallT isn't playing/on the course and is willing, I'd be more than happy to do that as well. If someone is playing their shot across the hole from me I imagine it wouldn't bother anyone and it wouldn't slow play as it takes only seconds to send it on its way. Any little data I can provide to help him put it together would be alright, so long as it isn't the expectation of manually entering scores after each and every hole through a potentially dodgy system (texting an image takes me 10 seconds, double tap my home button, snap, send).

We play nassaus. Your guys are welcome to stop after 10 holes… sure. :-D

I'd love to get to play in this, but even if I can't I think I'd be able to swing coming out to watch this one. If nothing else it will give me a really good motivation to buckle down again and focus on improvement this year.

I'll put my hat in the ring, but mainly as a way to push myself to play this year, plus get an official handicap and play a competition or two. Can't imagine how nervous I'd be if my first-ever competition was a Newport Cup. Don't imagine a coach who wants to win would be too keen on that either!

For now, I'll offer my name up for consideration, but it's a total stretch I can pull it all together early enough in the year to be in real consideration. Will be fun to try though.

Yeah, I caught up on how much live updating went on during the matches from you and Erik with Randall posting on TST a few days after the event was over. I simply cannot envision how the actually players can disengage long enough to do updates during matches, hole by hole. If I end up playing again then I would want to just play.

Is the west coast team planning doing separate 10 hole matches? .. ha ha.

Not separate, just efficient. It only takes 10 holes to win a match.

Only if they're spread out properly.

Again, we play a nassau, so if you win 5-4 and 5-4 on the nines, you'll win the whole match, but don't go 9-0 and 1-8. :-) You'll win but you won't sweep.

It's golf, not football.  There needn't be any intensity.  IMO, you're a lot better off if you disengage all of the time.  You watch the pros and listen to them talk and they frequently say that they prefer to talk about anything BUT golf with their caddies or playing partners on the walks between shots.

Exactly.  We don't want to embarrass you guys or anything. ;)

Not about intensity at all. It's not even my thing in general. I just fall of the rail tracks completely even when I talk or text on my phone during the round. I finally got my wife to stop texting me about picking up milk on the way home.

Ooooh, mathematically-logical-passive-aggressive-trash-talk. Love it.

V, there IS an easy solution to that, that requires no wife-training at all.  Simply leave your phone in the car.  Another option, buried in a pocket of the golf bag, all ringers and notifications disabled.

That just kicks up a dust storm of unjustified paranoia... ha ha..

So, what I have come to after dog pile of trial and error is: Happiness, is a phone in your pocket or bag that never rings.. :-)

Hmm.. how long before I get asked to get back on topic here..

Never thought about it like that and, again off topic, but you hit this on the head....

I will toss my name into the hat for 2017.

Hopefully, my work won't interfere with this schedule.

Knock on wood, but looking like it may be Talamore that hosts the 2017 edition.

It's a little confusing, but we'd likely play at Talamore and Mid-South.

We'll have more news by the end of the month.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
