1/22- 10 minutes working with Torc trainer (near handle). Slow and medium full swings, mindful of just flat left wrist, strong grip, and good swing plane. Club seems to be in good position relative to hands at A6, but look forward to video at range to confirm progress being made.

1/22 - 30 minutes doing my key 3 drill into a net. Filmed a bit to make sure I am doing it right. Last 15 minutes was chipping with my 54 wedge, then 1/2 and 3/4 swings.

Played 18. 45+47=92

Some shots felt better lag and drives were longer than normal. Still not solid.

After 18, hit bucket balls with PW and pump to feel lag. Not very successful. Pump drill seems to add tension and does not translate yet to maintaining lag longer.

also worked on my divot to make sure it was equal to or beyond ball

Well... I failed pretty miserably at the 5 minutes of daily practice.  Unfortunately, work became a storm for about 3 weeks and I was rarely home.  I had no time for family, let alone time to think about golf.

That said... I've played a few times in the down time I did have.

1/12 - I played 9 holes, posting a 45.  It was not good but not horrible.  Nothing really stands out from that round.

1/13 - I played at a friend's club and posted a 42 - 46 = 88 which should have been much better, but I struggled on the 17th hole and made a big number.  Overall, I felt pretty good about my game that day.

1/14 - I had 7 of my buddies come to my club and we played a 2 man scramble tournament.  I got stuck with a guy who had a horrible, horrible day and we finished dead last, but... I actually struck the ball really well throughout.

1/19 - I essentially ran through 9 holes.  I was pressed for time and did what I could but threw up a quad on the 2nd hole and a triple on the 7th hole en route to a 47.  Considering I hadn't touched a club in 5 days and I stepped onto the tee with no warm up, I wasn't overly disgusted.

1/20 - I got a text the night before that someone needed a slot filled in a 'tough day' scramble where everything was set up as difficult as possible.  I hit some really, really good shots including a chip in for birdie on our 3rd hole.  In a scramble format, I always just look to contribute and play well.  I would have scored really well if I was keeping score of my own ball.

1/21 - I am playing in a better ball match play tournament at my club and our next match needed to be played, so we decided to try and beat the rain that morning.  My partner and I absolutely blitzed our opponents (eliminating them) by a 7 & 5 final.  I birdied 3 holes (not sure how many times I've ever done that before, but I can't remember any) and posted a 41 - 40 = 81.  It was the best round I've played since the end of September and it's got me ready to go for the tournament season, which kicks off in 2 weeks.

Now... I've got nothing but time this week, so I'll look to practice and/or play every day except tomorrow.  We'll see what that brings to my game.

Great job, everybody, on keeping up with this.  I'll do my best the rest of this month and moving into February.

Took a shag of balls onto local playing fields and an #8 iron and just kept pitching balls up and down for an hour before sunset. Some wayward shockers, mainly when not treating shot with enough concentration and thought/effort. Really is a killer for me that!!!!!

Got some work in today before the heavy rain came in. Started with half swings then progressively got longer. It seems as though my eyes are seeing the same spot on the ground. Need to get some updated video.

1/22: Nasty weather all day. Managed to get about 20 minutes of pitching practice in, practiced setup, aim and routine. Then spent about 10 minutes just hitting full shots with my sand wedge for fun. Played with where I was looking at the ball a bit. I normally pick out a divot just inside the back-center of the ball to focus on, but changed it up a bit after 20 shots and hit 20 more shots focusing on a divot just outside the front-center of the ball (what I imagined as the "exit point" of the sweet spot if the ball were to remain stationary as the clubhead passed through it on an in-to-out path). Resulted in crisp, high draws. One after the other. I may just have to try it at the range.

55 balls at range next to current gig near Warrington. Still trying to learn myself to downswing towards ball with arms closer to torso instead of stretching.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
