1/9: integrated backswing and left wrist focus in with slow downswing. Ensured left wrist feeling flat and getting decent wrist hinge. Checked transition in mirror  to ensure club falling behind me at start of downswing.  15 min

Traveling with no golf clubs or swing trainer in Miami

5 min practice swings first with arms outstretched and then arms folded across chest

worked on takeaway, at the top of backswing, a bump to left and then swing thru.

makes me think about parts of swing:

• how to push with legs

• how to turn

• how finish with belly button toward target (have plenty of belly, just can't seem to turn completely toward target)

Practicing all week this way will be hard

Swings in the backyard brushing the hitting mat. I had the light on behind me so I could see my shadow. Feels like I am leaning (not falling) back at contact.

I keep getting this image of men swinging in front of a mirror, brushing up against a chair or wall, for 5 minutes, at home, or in the office, or out on the construction site. The thought that keeps popping into my head is the commercial on TV  "Do these pants make me look fat?" Then again, I see myself popping out to the back yard at odd times throughout the day (and night) swinging and hitting golf balls into a net, sometimes flipping the "bird" at the ball laying innate on the ground.  I guess that's not so different, other than I do not keep a chronological account of the activity.

1/10:I bought a new sand wedge with a giftcard from Christmas and it came in the mail today. Spent about 45 minutes or so alternating back and forth between practicing pitching and chipping, and full swings just to get a feel for the club.

1/11: 45 minutes at range. Exclusively worked flat left wrist. Practice swing, slowish motion swing with ball, then full swing with ball. Each batch of 3 swings a separate video. Reviewing now and submitting to instructor. Bit disappointing as the work here isn't fully being implemented "live." I am still tensing up over the ball, and need to break through so that it's all unconscious regarding the flat wrist. I need more range time, I think, but I'll just try to get out there every possible day this winter.

tried to really slow down today and focus while I was practicing.  I'm a broken record on the drills, setup tweaks, wall drill for hip turn, and feel a 1/2 swing to stop the arms from running on in backswing.  sent a fresh evolvr video in afterwards to make sure I'm on the right track.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
