1/13: 10 minutes backswing and left wrist. After the round yesterday, it gave me new appreciation on how important it is to solidify these pieces. Gotta get in a good position on the backswing, and I just can't afford cupping my wrists. Improving, but more work to get it all without thinking.

OK, now it's starting to get a little fanatical!!!

Started early with work and then had  meetings all day, rushed from the final one to Miami airport to get flight to Atlanta. So far, so good.

During layover, I realized that my next flight would get me to D.C. at midnight, meaning I would miss my "5 minute practice per day" and not make the full month, again.

First thought, I will watch a video. Enter Martin Hall, live from Ibis...

http://www.revolutiongolf.com/experts/martin-hall/the-hall-wall-visualize-this-to-drive-it-farther?vrg=ys

Well, that felt kind of like a cop out and also motivated to try Hall's Wall.

the problem: I am in the middle of the world's busiest airport! After much searching, I find a terminal with a dimly lit corner in front of windows giving out onto the tarmac. I start doing my slow swings--thumb in chest and turn to take elbow to "the wall."

Follow that up with some extended arm slow back swings and am "pushing, pushing, pushing" and look up to see two Delta pilots looking at me from the cockpit and cracking up that I am practice my golf swing in terminal T5!

sheepishly, I finished my routine of 5 minute swing practice and headed off to my gate!

Very excited that tomorrow get an hour lesson with golf pro Erika Larkin

Spent an hour on the range today (it was snowing 8" a week ago).  Worked on a handful of things and then the hook manifested itself.  Once I relaxed my hands a bit and focused on making a good shoulder turn I hit the ball really well.

Oh, I also started testing a new driver for an upcoming review.

Fairways and Greens.

1/13.  Worked slow and full swings stretching.  Address over ball for better hand position.    Leaning still.

Lesson with pro, working on swing, plane and how to start downswing by "pulling" the club down to attack ball inside to out as was coming down over top and out to in at last possible second to ensure I was hitting ball. Tempo smoother today with less thought on trying to attack ball, just let club move the ball.

Yep, that's the name of the game for us working on our swing. We need to find the right body movements to get things in a position so that the club does a lot of the work, just from swinging through naturally. I know, for myself, I've gotten things so out of position, I've gotta manipulate at the last second- which is prone to error.

1/14: 10 minutes. After review of latest video from instructor, adjusted grip back stronger (had let that weaken over time- arrgh). Feels good to reset that, as club feels more easily closed (my miss has been a push fade right). Also still working flat left wrist. New checkpoint at A6, and look at how open/closed the club is. I'd been getting more open again there- indicating wrist not as flat as it could be.

Up early today and getting my practice in. Slow swings inside. The detail behind this is that I make backswing and then focus on starting with the left hip going back. I left the club fall as I continue to rotate the left hip back and up so that by time I get to impact, my belt buckle is pointing towards the target as much as I can make it. I let the club release with arms fully extended by the time they catch up to my hips.

    • Day 33 (20 Feb 26) - played the Friday men’s group shootout.  Solid day of working from some tough shot results - made for a good number of up and downs for par (8 of the 9 pars were such). Cart mate and I discussed the visual aspect of the game - and how much it plays into the individual’s mindset during the round.  Love when the discussion is focused on learning and taking positives away and not just how bad the miss may be.
    • Day 507 - 2026-02-20 Got some backswing work in on GEARS Hybrid.
    • Still kinda working on the backswing stuff. I can turn < 45°, but I tend to tilt toward the target a little. I can tilt away from the target, but I tend to turn a bit more. Case in point. I can do it, though: This I can do all day (it's more lateral than I want, but it's very linear): Here's what 38° of turn looks like. Almost freaking nothing.
    • Good progress. I am finally feeling like I am settling my weight into my right foot earlier in the backswing. Right hip sinks back, right leg feels staying flexed. Feeling very stable and firm in the right leg. I feel like I could do a good squat with that right leg. Very balanced.
    • oops, forgot Pebble Beach and Spyglass.  And two more of the original Open rota, Prestwick and Musselburgh (with hickory shafted rentals).  And Muirfield.  And maybe a few more, I'll check my list when I get home.
