I have a pair of Footjoy Greenjoys. The main selling point was it was one of the cheapest pairs of shoes that I could find and not so much a fashion statement. They've done a reasonably good job in the half year I've had them. Obviously there isn't a bit of leather to be found.

All the companies want to make shoes out of cheap materials and sell them as " hi tech materials". If they use any leather it's small strips and scraps.they are making a fortune. Good shoes should be leather.

I bought a new pair of Foot Joy Contours last year. Where I live it's important that shoes be waterproof! However, I did notice that the "soft spikes" seemed to be a little different than in Foot Joy shoes past, and they did mark up a green!

Overall, I'm happy with the shoes other than having to feel like I need to walk like a cat on the green!

My current favorite pair definitely has a traditional look to them:

THAT'S what I'm talking about!  To me, that looks like a golf shoe.

The points of those spikes break off. Just change spikes.

I like Oxford style golf shoes and wing tips, but they don't look good with shorts, which I also always wear.

I have an issue with well made golf shoes that lose their utility when the built-in "spikes" get worn down.  It just seems like a waste to me.  So I have two pairs of Ashworth Kingstons:thumb.jpg

These shoes are waterproof, relatively light,  have replaceable spikes, and fit my foot pretty well.  Even better, they've been discontinued, so you can get them at a very fair price.

the only thing wrong with this car is the nut behind the wheel.

Only one brand fits my foot shape well - Nike's.  So I've had a Lunar (something) for a long time - 3rd new pair is now sitting and waiting for the snow to melt, the 2nd pair is in the trunk for golf dome time, but they are getting worn out.

I have 3 criteria for golf shoes

  • comfort
  • durability
  • comfort

for the last 35 years of wearing shoes, it's only in the last 5-10 years or so that golf shoes have fit as good or better than just a tennis shoe and not tear my feet apart.  and it's pretty much been that the more they look like cross trainers and the LESS they look like dress shoes, the better.  So the OP picture?  I avoid that like the plague.

I could not care less about fashion..  I'm playing golf, not walking a runway.

I totally agree. The traditional looking golf shoes to me are a relic of the past that's better forgotten than reminisced.

The best golf shoe I've ever worn, bar none, and it's not even close, is the Nike Lunar Control 4-

I would rather wear a wing tip style shoe with shorts than an athletic/sneaker style with slacks.  But a saddle shoe goes with everything!

I've wondered why they still allow spikes like that.  Wasn't protecting the greens the reason for not permitting metal spikes?  Those certainly tear up a green more than the old style metal spikes.  I want to be considerate and keep the course in good shape.

They don't look very comfortable either.  I walk courses, I look for comfortable shoes for a long walk.  I also want a shoe without an elevated heel.

I use these:

Was asst supt on a fla course in the 80's. Metal spikes were the only option. I see ALOT more nasty scuff marks on greens from the claw style plastic spikes than I ever did back in the day.

Back to shoe style though I find my Sketchers infinitely more comfortable than the pairs of traditional shoes I've had

I like the old school look in a golf shoe.Found a pair of nike shoes, heritage I think, seemed to be best of both, traditional look with modern comfort. The uppers pretty much desintegrated after getting wet a few times (I clean and dry shoes after rounds),the soles are still like new,I could make some golf sandals out of them.

Most all of my golf shoes are various styles of Footjoys.  And, most of those are Dryjoy Tours or older Dryjoys.  Several years ago, I could see the style of golf shoes changing to something I knew I was not going to like so I bought multiple pairs of the ones I liked when they were on sale.  Thankfully, I still have several pairs still in the box, never opened.

The Footjoy FJ Sport was a spikeless shoe with style.  I got a pair of those and liked them so I bought 3 more pair.  Still have 1 in the box.  That shoe is about as far from the Traditional shoe style as I have ventured.  Footjoys current offerings for spikeless shoes do not interest me at all.
