Well, maybe things have changed. God knows the prices were a whole lot lower back then than they are now! I think we payed $190 per for Spyglass, and I think Pebble was going for $250 per at the time.

And we were not staying on the property, we were staying in Carmel. Maybe you get a discount if staying at the resort. At close to $500 a round I'm sure they have plenty of vacancies!

Went there 10 years ago with a group of friends - we played Spy Glass, Del Monte, Links @ Spanish Bay, Pacific Grove, because those we could make tee times for while not staying on property.
What I've tried to tell people is that it costs about $2,000 to play Pebble because you have to stay on property 2 nights to be allowed to make 1 tee time for Pebble. The costs of rooms start at around $600/night (plus fees), and if I'm playing Pebble I want to walk and have a caddie so that is about $600 to $650. But for staying on property you can also get tee times at one of the other PB courses.
You can always check for open tee times if you are in the area for the next day; that is what they allow for those not staying on property. They will put you with a 2-some or 3-some if possible. I know several people who have done this and say it is spectacular - but for me it stays on the bucket list because I've still got kids in college.
For the record, 10 years ago we were able to do our trip for less that $2,000 per person including airfare, car rental, housing (gorgeous place in Carmel Highlands - about 15 minutes away), food .... but for some I don't think that covered their beverage bill.

Players play, tough players win!

When I go, I'm going to do one of the several night package deals.  3 nights and one round each on Pebble, Spyglass and Spanish Bay.  If I want to gamble with the winter weather then it could be $2600 or so, or if I want to go in the summer where it's more likely to be beautiful, then it's closer to $3900.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Some of these shots on social media are better than what's on the telecast.

Pebble gonna Pebble - more weather delays this morning, as they try to complete the first round, drive everyone to their next course and get the second round started.

Well, a buddy of mine brought up a "bucket list" item about playing Pebble. I took a look on the internet, and I figured it would cost us at least 3 grand apiece to make the trip. If you did for under 2 Grand you are a wizard!

Then I noticed that you said this took place 10 years ago. I don't know what the green fees were back then, but today they'd equal your $2K!

As much as I love Bill Murray, he's out of control. He needs to stop throwing his clubs around and acting like a huge dick. He's gonna hurt somebody one of these times.

I think you missed the point that we did not play PB, your price point to play PB is pretty much dead on

Just an FYI to y'all, Jordan Spieth just won his 9th PGA  Tour event.  He's on Tiger's tail, with an exponentially harder field to contend with.  This is some shit.

He's young. People said Tiger would crush Jack's record and look how that turned out. Let's judge Spieith's career about 10 years from now.

Ah, good point! Went back and re-read the post. Back when we played it cost $190 per to play Spyglass, and $250 per to play Pebble. The only issue was that we could get a time on Spyglass a couple of months in advance. At Pebble anything less than a year was laughable! Nowadays I think it takes 5 Hundy per to play Pebble! Plus whatever you have to shell out for lodging and meals, which ain't cheap!

I don't hear anyone claiming that he's going to "crush" either Tiger or Jack.  Just acknowledging an incredible start....why not just enjoy it as it goes?

No one said that we should wait 10 years before climbing on the Tiger train when he came out of the gate as fast as he did.  And rightfully not.

Tiger, at the same age, won 12 times in the next 13 months, including 4 majors. Spieth is on Tiger's tail compared to Tiger before he really became Tiger.

Not to pick on you, because you're not the only one doing it, but I hate these Spieth-Tiger comparisons. Speith is a fantastic golfer in his own right, but he doesn't hold a candle to Tiger in his prime. Why compared him to one of the two best golfers of all time? Spieth could win 8 majors, which would make him a top 5 golfer of all time, and people might still look at him as a failure, because he wasn't Tiger. That's insane.

I saw the stat about the age similarities, but they gave another star too: this is Jordan's 9th win and his 100th start ... when Tiger hit 100 starts, he had 28 wins.  TWENTY EIGHT!

However, I stipulate your point about the field strength - there's no getting around that. :)

P.S. He looked like 2015 this weekend.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
