Welcome to the "5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge for June, 2017! The rules are the same as always:

  • Make a detailed post describing your practice every day during the month. Try to limit the number of very short or "ditto" type posts. Describe what you did for at least five minutes of practice (indoors or out, with or without golf balls, etc.).
  • No back-dating or pre-dating posts or practice sessions.
  • On the last day of the month, if you completed the challenge, post about it in red text so I can notice it and give you the award.

Enjoy and practice hard!

Note: you can miss one day per monthly challenge if you have a good reason and still be eligible for the monthly award.

Gonna give this a go.

6/1/2017:

I spent 1 1/2 hours at the putting green working on chipping with a SW and PW and putting.   I've developed a game where I chip to the 6 holes on the green and try to get down with a total of 10 putts.  I practiced my Aimpoint reading with each.

On the bus and the metro, I got 5min of very discrete Don Saladino lateral stretches done without undue attention from other passengers

https://www.revolutiongolf.com/experts/don-saladino/assisted-lat-stretch-lengthen-your-backswing-with?vrg=ys

40 min Sklz, 7i and driver

stop at top, pump (3x) and full swings

pretty strong workout with only a couple of set repeats due to poor form

chipping

less than 4/11 three times in a row so restarted drill

5/11, then 5/11 and by the time I was finishing drill, started to have better form

I crashed and burned the last time I tried to do this; then, my right elbow flared up for a while.  Let's try again...

6/1:  Little rainy, so didn't go to play, but got in long practice session....
Warmup and conditioning session w/OW & Momentus; 3x15 w/OW; 2x10 w/Momentus
80 ball pitching session from my various "tees" around the yard; focus on tempo and letting my body/turn drive the swing
25 foam-ball full swing session w/TourStriker 7ip off mat; focus on full turn back and then using core to drive through ball w/lag--best striking session I've had in a long time.  25/25 on strong swing w/good contact, just a couple of little pushes and pulls.
1x20 OW conditioning/cool-down session

6/1: Walked nine after work this evening. Shot 4 over with 6 pars, 2 singles, and a double.

Slow play in front so I skipped the middle of the course and played 1-5 & 15-18. Driver and irons were working well, hit five greens and was less than a yard off on two others. Four-putted on one hole, really can't explain that, but great evening otherwise.

15mins. putting in my house to my trusty ball return thingy.  Focused on tempo from the tempo thread (start on 1, transition at 3, hit at 1)...that has been a godsend; putting very well.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
