Jordan Spieth is as big of head case as I am.

Nutcase Spieth scored an other win. He is one of the best on earth. Think you need to be a bit nutty to be that good.

It was a great win, but he did look very nervous the whole back 9. I hope this relaxes him more now.

Good thing Grellar was there to help hold the wheels on.

I hope so but as a fan, I rarely get comfortable with his leads, like in the past. I think if he hadn't made that sand shot Berger might have taken the tourney. Jordan's confidence in his short shows so much and his lack thereof shows through in his tee shots. Almost every tee shot I am wondering where he is going to put it this time...

That win was huge form the standpoint of, simply, he was having a pretty bad day. Nothing was really working, and you could see it in his body language (he is a nutcase after all lol)...but somehow he found a way to win. I think this is going to just blast him into a new level of confidence. He learned how to win when things aren't going your way.

I hope so. I hope they use it to calm him down. Yelling at his iron was down right silly.

Big props to his caddy, which JS gave after the win. He had his hands full keeping JS calm, actually intervened when JS missed a putt down the stretch & was rushing the next putt...which was like a 5-footer. Literally stopped him from rushing the shot.

Keep in mind - 23 years old.

I would not compare myself in golf talent but I see some amateur tendencies in his golf game. Things like double misses with the driver and poor conversion on 5 foot putts. Lack of confidence and inability to "right the ship" during the round compared to other great golfers seems to more glaring. Maybe it's just me or the fact that he is constant covered. Any one else want to weigh in?

Don't know if I would go so far as head case but he does get "frantic" out there and isn't one to hide his emotions. It is interesting to watch because it gives you more insight to what's going on with him than other players.

When it comes down to it the guys on tour are just people who experience the same doubts and emotional up and downs as any of us, they are just really, really good at hitting a little white ball. I never really bought that they are/were superior "mentally" (like emotionally). The pros still get nervous (even first tee gitters), they just have more experience dealing with it and some realize that being nervous doesn't affect their ability to hit good shots.

Not to get too far off topic but I follow Garrett Kramer on Twitter and I like a lot of what he says. Here's a couple tweets that basically sums up the gist of his "philosophy".

I laughed out loud when he did that. I actually thought it was silly in a way that likely calmed himself down a bit. That's actually the personality I will assume when things like that happen to me. He knows it's not the iron's fault (duh) but it's a humor mechanism. I loved the way he cradled the club face specifically, looked it "straight in the eye" and said "what's wrong with you!" So funny. I love that about him. I think it's a positive thing.

This is what I mean by him being as much of a "headcase" as I am. It was hilarious to see him doing that though.

Good quotes by Kramer. I think trying to control your nerves/emotions is equivalent of trying to steer the club-head through impact... futile.

This article touches on this a little bit: http://www.cbssports.com/golf/news/a-simple-fact-was-proven-at-travelers-nobody-gets-buckets-like-jordan-spieth/

He can come across as whiny (at best) and petulant (at worst) on camera. He exists in his own world while playing competitive rounds on the PGA Tour, which creates a prism through which he is often misinterpreted. His art is very much internal, but he is stuck in an external business.

I think that captures it. He's not a headcase, in my view. His results reflect that. I think he's just more vocal than others on the PGA Tour, so we interpret it as being a headcase. Not everybody can be stoic like Tiger or Hogan. Honestly, I have thought this same thing, that I'm worried about Spieth's mental game, but that doesn't make sense given that he has 2 majors and 10 PGA Tour wins already.

After seeing Jordan's miraculous bunker shot at the Traveler's, I'd say he may be a streak player.

Some weeks he's on target, other weeks he's here and there and everywhere with his shots. I sometimes think he has the Furyk Syndrome: tending to overthink shots when things go flaky.

Multiple times last year, TV announcers used Jordan tee shots as an example of the hands taking over and resulting in a serious miss left.

10 wins before the age of 24 would say otherwise. He's been a pretty consistent winner since 2013. Now, does he struggle in some tournaments? Of course. Who doesn't (paging Rory McIlroy). No one wins - or is in contention - every week.

But only one player in history was faster to 10 wins. He occupies rarefied air now.

I was wanting to make a mock shot zone map for Jordan's playoff hole on the 18th with his approach shot but I haven't had the time. I was thinking I would make a 4-ft diameter circle around the hole and label it as a hazard, and I would label the bunkers green for good! Maybe make it a meme.

Another one would be Jordan talking to his caddie, make a meme where his caddie is giving him advice but Jordan interrupts him saying "I'm just going to put it in the bunker, I'll be safe there!"

I was waiting for this. Funny thing is that I was just working on my attitude on the course and trying to enjoy golf more and maintain a positive attitude which got me to my lowest round ever. Then, I am watching the Open and they're talking about Spieth doing the same thing. I still say he has demons like me, just a ton more talent.

    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.
