I kust pulled out my notes from range work that i did one year ago. I used to hit mi 7 iron 184.

I'm a big swinger so I hit mine 165 - 170 comfortably. Of course, I'm 6'3 and 235lbs so hitting my irons longer seems to come naturally.

If I swing well I can hit my 7 iron about 135. But historically the 7-iron has been a tough club for me to swing. One afternoon I probably shanked 90 balls at the range with it (you can imagine the looks I got).

However, that experience was a sign I still had to work on my swing mechanics. Now I use the 7 iron any chance I can. The better I can hit with the 7 iron, then I know my swing is on the right track.

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

I hit the ball about 70 yards, and the clump of dirt goes about 120.

In all seriousness though...my 7 iron is somehow my anti-club...I'd rather crank a delofted 8, or take an easy swing on a 6 and hope for the best. Honestly...makes me bummed out thinking about it ha ha.

probably around 160, 165 if i hit it real clean

I'm in between two choices. These days I'm getting a 7 iron out 165-175 yards.

In some ways I wish I was 6'3" and up near 200lbs. Like senorchipotle mentioned, it takes so little effort to kill the ball with that size. Well except for the effort in learning how to swing properly. Anyway, my buddy is about 6'1", pretty thick, probably near 195lbs, but solid. He can pump his out 200yards if need be. Doesn't usually, but has it if he wants it. But, I'm 5'10", not 6'something. Oh well,I can consistently expect to have a nice look at birdie or eagle.

    • Agreed. For me, the feel was introduced to get the arms moving down from the top. It wasn't necessarily a "get it in front of the hip" explanation as the correct position but more for an exaggerated feel to get rid of the earlier issue.

    • Ohio - Best Courses You Can Play 1. Manakiki, Willoughby -  2. Fowler’s Mill (Lake & River), Chesterland -  3. The Virtues, Nashport - Played 👍I only played it once. I'm thinking I should give it another day in court.  4. Boulder Creek, Streetsboro - Played it a lot. 👍I give it a thumbs up. Having said that it is probably over-rated.  5. Sleepy Hollow, Brecksville -  6. Stonelick Hills, Batavia -  7. The Quarry, Canton - Was supposed to play it. Got rained out.  8. Little Mountain, Painesville - Played. 👍Might be my favorite on the list. Not sure why, but I enjoy this one.  9. Cooks Creek, South Bloomfield - Played years ago. I've also heard it's fallen on hard times.  10. EagleSticks, Zanesville - Played a few times. 👍I like it. Not perfect, but you can get it at a good value. For what ever reason Golf Websites are always running this one at value prices.  So, I've only played half the courses on the list. In August I will have lived in Ohio for 10 years. So, I better get on it and knock a few more of these off the list.    I second that. Beavercreek is a good one.
