Photographer and filmmaker Dustin Farrell spent the summer chasing lightning with a $110,000 Phantom Flex4K high-speed camera. What resulted was this 4K short film, titled “Transient,” that shows the epic beauty of lightning in 1,000fps slow motion.

I've always loved watching thunderstorms blow up over our area, even since I was a kid. That despite my Dad making us hide in the basement! But, he lived through a tornado in his youth, so I suppose it's understandable.

Had to chime back in. Reminds me of something one of the astronauts in One Strange Rock said about observing the Earth from the International Space Station. They remarked that they were impressed with how violent this planet is! They could see lines of thunderstorms marching across the planet, and witness the lightning.

    • And unless one believes he tanked his next drive, the cracked face appears to have affected the ball flight.
    • Even a tiny crack is enough to change ball flight at the PGA Tour level. Plus the next swing might completely collapse it.
    • Day 118 (28 Aug 24) - Easy day with some of the clubs hitting into the net in the backyard.  Worked on setup and takeaway process.  Kept most swings to 1/2 swings as the focus was getting consistent contact on the ball with the club face.
    • Taking a quick look at the video, it wasn't enough damaged (on camera) to affect ball flight in my opinion. I think he just took his chances with a referee in hopes he will be allowed to change it.  A couple months ago I cracked my Driver on the warm up of a mid am. It sounded different and of course the ball wasn't going as far, but the flight was somewhat predictable and the lost in carry wasn't that huge to drop down to 3 wood so I played the 36 holes with that club and proceeded to replace it (under warranty) for the next tournament.  I drove it pretty well that tournament, stats told me I loose 10 yards but it was accurate enough to be a better selection than 3 wood.
    • Man I really wish I I knew I could have dug my basement out deeper when building my new house then I could have had a full enclosure like this instead of having to do a retractable setup in my garage.
