Day 1 June 26, 2018

Today I hit foam golf balls in the front yard and videoed my swing for my first evolvr lesson.

Day 26.  I am almost to red letters.  Hit the range, different course.  I hadn't been there in a year and wow it's in amazing shape.  Range, 30 balls, one hour.  I hit irons and wedges at the range, focusing on my priority piece with the iron, getting video, and hitting 3/4 shots with a 50-degree wedge.  Oh and I got video.  I also did some putting, short putts inside 10'.

Day 177.

An easy day this morning. Just some pitch shots. I am still beat from yesterday's 18 hole round in the high triple digits. I had been playing 9 holes. The extra 9 took a little out of me, heat wise.

Focus was on easy swings to a pin, 50 +/- yards away. Alignment, using my latest check point was also so a foucus. It seems to help. Used my SW. Hit 56 balls. (B+)

From there it was some putting. I pushed a few putts in yesterday's round, late in the back 9. Wanted to check on that. Fatigue was most likely the culprit, as I had no pushes this morning. (A)

Truth be known, if not for the "bisquits, and gravy" breakfast at the club house, I probably would have stayed home this morning. Just swung my Kallassy club for a few minutes

DAY 218   Spent 30 plus minutes on the range before playing golf today at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, FL. I shot 79 which is the best score I have ever shot at that course by 3 strokes!!  This is a Pete Dye course that seems to punish bad shots, and the greens were still healing from aeration, AND they were aerating the fairways (so we played lift. clean and place).   I guess all this hard work in paying off.... now about those 3 three putts!!  Grrr......  probably hang out in the driveway and swing my Orange Whip a little to get out the frustration.  :-)

Day 2 June 27, 2018

I worked in full swing long iron shots today focusing on keeping the hands ahead at impact. I started with 3/4 shots and worked up to full swings.

Day 56:

Long day at work so it messed with my plans for full swing practice. I snuck in 10 minutes of putting practice. Worked on 3-6 foot putts just grooving a solid stroke.

Day 27.  Travel day, all I had time to do was putt on a carpet for about 5-10 minutes.  Putted on the ruler, focusing on (1) grip, (2) not accelerating through impact, and (3) having more than just enough to send the ball through the yardstick.  Hit 25/30 straight, missed all five that I missed right.

Day 178

Took an early morning 3 mile hike, with half being 800' foot elevation change uphill. Took a little over an hour.

Did this for cardio, and leg strength maintenance. Healthy legs help with staying balanced during my swing.

Yeah, I stopped a couple of times on the uphill part.......lol

Day 12, June 28 - Mirror work at the gym. Raining buckets outside.

Focused on my new priority pieces, a slight change in grip, lower hands at set up then punch shots, hold at  8-9 for a second, then move to finish. We're trying to reduce my hooks. The grip is a bit stronger with the left thumb higher on the grip. The lower hands will help my path. The punch helps me from turning over my wrists to soon.

Day 57:

Great practice day at the range. And not just because I was hitting good shots (I was), but because I know WHY I was hitting good shots. After a rocky start (similar to Monday), I gabbed the range's portable practice mirror and saw my stance and address portion were off. I made some adjustments and started hitting some great shots and made solid contact throughout the bag. Its amazing how much a proper set up can influence your swing. 30+ minutes today.

Day 28:  Played a Pete Dye course for my birthday.  http://www.gamegolf.com/player/Shindig/round/2251310

5 GIR (parred all 5;  two of the birdie putts were at about 10', both coming off a 75 yard 3/4 gap wedge) + 6 near-GIR (2 saves out of those 6), shot 87 despite four doubles and a triple.  Went 12 holes with nothing worse than a 5.  Played the par-5s for the round in even.  Driver and approach better than 10 handicap, that practice is paying off.  Blew my short game losses primarily in two holes (hole 16, took three short-game shots to get on the green;  hole 13, missed the green from 12 yards from the pin).

Oh, and that makes 28 consecutive days, which of course I want to keep going.  Today's round was the first that felt like I could have had it before my unfortunate break, and I don't think I'd have gotten back so quickly if not for this challenge.

DAY 219  Spent 1 1/2 hours in the short game area working on my short wedge technique and rhythm.   Hitting a ball with my left hand only, then right hand only, then both hands on the club and going to the top of the backswing --counting to three and then hitting the ball.  Then to assess the impact of the practice, I headed over to a green where I could hit 20 and 30 yard shots for 15 minutes.  For the 20 yards shots I was 8/10 inside 6 feet, and for the 30 yard shots I was 5/10 within six feet of the hole.  Good scores from where I started, and the progress motivates me to continue.  Back at it tomorrow. :-)

Day 2

Played 9 holes today. Struggle a bit with my swing stuff. Got near the green in two most of the time, and got up and down decently. Had one bad hole were I had a bad short game incident. Cost me two strokes.

Day 3 June 28, 2018

I received my first evolvr analysis today. I was giving two areas to work on to start with. The first was strengthening my grip just a touch and the second was not taking a divot until after contacting the ball. I drew a line and made practice swings focusing on taking a shallow divot after the line.  I started making slow swing and gradually built up speed. After taking 50 swings I hit a few balls using the new technique practiced.

    • As a supporter of the European team even though I chose to live in the US, this is kind of good news. I'm pretty close to Bethpage, but won't be going at these prices. Neither will the crazy drunk NY sports fans who would have made this a very difficult place to play as a Euro. The tickets will go to the city types who are entertaining clients and don't care about the money. Many of them are going to sit there and watch, not get all raucous. I am not dumb enough to believe that this is going to be like a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park for the Euros, but I think it will be significantly more subdued as a result of the prices. Even at $250 I would probably have been watching on the TV anyway so no real skin in the game.
    • First, it is on free TV. NBC is free to anyone with an antenna, and is on almost any TV in the U.S. with a minimal amount of effort. Charging "a bargain price" would be incredibly dumb. They charged $750 and the event sold out almost immediately. You could better argue they should have charged MORE, not less. What happens if you charge less: ticket scalpers buy up even more of the tickets because they see value: if tickets were $250, they'd clearly have sold for $1k or more on the secondary market. That's tremendous value. Fans would end up paying the same or more, or just not being able to go. Sure, a few who happened to be online at the precise moment on a fast connection and didn't fumble with their credit cards might have gotten tickets for $250, but the secondary market and ticket brokers would have scooped up the vast majority with automated processes and bots and scripts, then re-sold them later on. This way, fans get to purchase the tickets, and the PGA is earning that revenue, not the secondary ticket brokers. Econ 101. Supply and Demand. Nope.
    • Edit - the link has no title, but basically Tiger wants $5 million for each US player to “donate to charity”   They could put the Ryder Cup on free to air tv, and charge the fans a bargain price to get in.  If you have to  give the players $60 million, that’s why the tickets are $750.
