Guess some of these social media guys are thinking cross promotion helps with marketing. I haven't watched this yet, maybe it's a stealth promotion for Taylor Made again, I dunno.

Didn't know that George can't really drive the ball very well, but he seems to really know his stuff about the swing.

The lifting the club up over the ball move is something that Dana told me to do in the past. I'll probably check it out at the range tomorrow afternoon.

I watched this last night and then spent the next hour or more watching ggswingtips videos. He is very high energy and really advocates for using ground forces and the "pivot and turn" style of swing.

I am interested to hear others thoughts on what he teaches, some of data he has shown from some of his students looks pretty impressive and seems like most of them generate a good amount of speed.

I knew in the back of my mind I really needed to work on opening my hips up more (right now they are dead straight to target at impact, not open at all) and watching some of his videos was just the reminder I needed to start working on it. I do have a steeper swing too so I am hoping that by rotating more it will shallow the club out without me relying on laying it down by manipulating the right wrist as I have tried to do in the past.

I find many of GG's videos interesting. His style for me isn't the best. He is all over the place, but @mvmac has said his stuff comes from Como, so at a base level it is pretty good. I don't think a golfer has to exaggerate the Snead squat move that he does. For example when I watch Dana's videos I don't see him emphasizing that move nearly as much. They both talk in great detail about shaft flattening but Dana does not seem to have his students squatting quite as much as GG's.

I have only watched a few of his videos but from what it seems like for me, GG extremely over-exaggerate the squatting movement when he is explaining it, and then when his students actually go to do the motion it looks pretty normal and it looks like they utilize their body very well in my opinion, which is definitely something I need to get better at.

I know for myself I will need to over exaggerate a lot just to make it even a smaller change in using my body since I don't use it very much now.

I haven't watched any of the videos with Dana, I will have to look those up.

Probably just a coincidence, and a little off topic, but the UK guys are handy with editing, Crossfield and these guys. Love the little quick throw up graphics.

Gonna add this one to the steepness thread I'd started a while back. Tons of videos in that thread, but what's one more?!

Fer sure.

He's an interesting guy - appeals to the younger set with his bohemian, irreverent style. I purchased some of his online lessons, and a lot of it is very good - golf is a game of opposites - stand up more in the backswing leads to a better squat in downswing, flying elbow can lead to shallowing the club without thinking in the downswing, leave your arms up at the top and rotate, use the ground more.

I like the emphasis on rotation and I, with the help of my instructor, have gotten me open at impact and I use the jump off the front foot. But I also learned watching GG vids. I don't buy the emphasis on the heavy squat as much. What I found is that if you leave too much weight in the back foot on the downswing as he describes, it's too much. What he doesn't want you to do is lead with that front hip so it slides upwards giving you too much right lean. Just rotate. Interesting, but like all patterns you need to incorporate what works for you.

I don’t think you’d feel that way if you met him.

You can be whomever you want to be on social media. I notice GG doesn't post many of his "not pro" aspiring clients. Of course, we all want to see the guys who swing 124mph but what about the normal golfer he is or isn't teaching. I too have caught myself watching his lessons on Instagram for an hour at a time and really I don't know why he needs his guys to use the legs so much. It must be sound if there are people going super low under his teaching, but to me, it looks like they all move way too much in the swing. Almost unnecessary movement.

What do you mean by unecessary movement? Are you talking about too much movement with the legs?

I know for me personally, I have basically no hip or chest open at impact, and when I was doing some dry swings trying out the leg motions I've watched in some of his videos, I filmed a few of my dry swings and both my hips and chest were much further open, and even though it felt like I was squatting and sitting way back, I really wasnt and it actually looked quite normal.

I'm sure it will be much different when I go to the range, but so far the dry work feels and looks like it will be successful for me.

I wish he would post more less spry, not playing in high school/college/mini tour players too. There are some, but harder to find.

That I wouldn't feel like he slept on the beach? Or that I wouldn't like his attitude? He definitely puts off a vibe of super laid back surfer dude

I guess I agree with @nevets88 in that that swing doesn’t work for everyone who isn’t the prototypical skinny lanky college golf player. I just don’t see him posting the swings of higher index players.

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.
