Watching a bit of the Italian Open and several other European Tour events in recent months it sure seems like the fans are much better behaved.  Not so many, annoying outbursts - at least what is televised. It does seem that US fans are getting more raucous as the years roll along.  When I attended round 3 at Chambers Bay, I could not believe the amount of chatter and hooting, seemingly after every shot.  Same at a number of Boeing Classics, though not quite as bad. I compare this to a couple of PGA events I attended a couple decades earlier, which were considerably more sedate.  One fans impressions - YMMV.

I think the "Baba booey" and "Get in the hole! " calls are original and funny. Never heard anyone say either before. ;-)

Well, you can add "dilly-dilly" and "we love you (add players name)" to the growing list of idiotic shouts this generation of fans brings to golf. Worse is that they are so eager to be heard on social media that they start on the downswing.

I think Fox bears some responsibility for their decisions regarding microphones and the audio mix. Crowd shouts have been a tiresome part of the US Open viewing experience.

Yeah, no argument about what is being carried over the broadcasts, but that's not what I'm really getting at here.  And this type of behavior is not unique to the U.S. Open, though it and a few others do seem to be worse than most. A new level of self absorb narcissism has, unfortunately, entered professional golf.

I couldn't agree more here. I don't know who thought "Let's get the New York fan feel in the broadcast," but they should be canned. Obnoxious behavior that NY fans hang their hats on has zero entertainment level with the rest of the country other than maybe with the other boneheads that yell Baba and mashed at other PGA events.

Shinnecock was a disgrace as far as the gallery is concerned.  The amount of shouting, calling out "Paulina" (leave the wives out of it you pervs), and then the Booing of players.  Shameful.

With regard to the fans at Shinnecock, given the past at Bethpage, it's pretty much the same, no? Remember "Grip Boy" and Garcia? Not to excuse the behavior, but it's always been bad, whether it has gotten worse, hard to tell. Is it because more microphones or have the insults gotten worse and more frequent?

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

This doesn't make it palatable. If the New York fan can't be better behaved, maybe the ropes should be moved further back and the price of alcohol increased. It's just stupid and embarrassing...

It has definitely gotten worse.  I have attended about 30+ PGA and LPGA events dating back to the early 70's and the level of chatter during player swings and boisterous idiotic yelling has escalated quite a bit.  I'll use Boeing's Champion Tour stop (Boeing Classic) as an example.  I attended all but one of these from 2005-2015 and marshalled at about half of those.  Each successive year, more emphasis had to be directed at trying to handle crowd disturbances and more folks were being shown the front gate.  They had to re-locate the grandstand at the hole #14 because of the yelling with each tee shot.  It became more of a yelling contest (hope I can hear myself on replay) than watching the friggin event.   The one European Tour event I attended in Hamburg about 5 years ago was a stark contrast and nice to see.  I hate seeing what's happening to U.S. golf venues from a spectators perspective.

      Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.

      I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!

      A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
