He didn’t. I know what he said, but he’s just telling (non-funny) stories.

If you want to worry about that, start a new topic @GrandStranded, because a @Gilberg topic will never be all that serious (or all that funny).

it's the serious responses that are funny.

This guy had me at "just oiled up the clubs"...

Anyway, with the handicap system so digitized now, i don't know why it costs as much as it does. You can pay $12 a year for 100gigs or more of a cloud service but a golf handicap costs you $30-$40? If i didn't need an official one for tournaments, i wouldn't keep a handicap either.

I pay $21 per year, thru my club. There's another club nearby, (The Legends) which provides it free. I don't know anywhere near me that charges much more then I'm paying.

The club i get mine from charges $32. Most clubs i know of charge similar rates. I dont know what services without property charge, tho. Maybe this centralized world handicap system will drop the prices down some.

My men's club charges $35... that's what the Colorado Golf Association charges them.  It's been the same price for 15 years.

Long story short I saved at least $10 and didn't get a handicap, so i don't have to worry about putting in scores.  Love to hear if anyone on here has fellen for this trick.

I fell into that trap a couple years in a row, before wising up this spring. I know better now, it's nothing but a waste of my time and money to have a handicap and post scores! I'll never register with GHIN again!

That or I just forgot to renew my men's club membership since I haven't had much chance to golf yet this year. Haven't figured out which of the two it is yet.

You want a handicap because you play amateur events no?

I know it's hard to believe, but if you're a resident of Horry County, you can get a membership at their 5 courses for about $40 a year. Then play for $35 w breakfast and lunch and 2 beers. free range balls included. I heard the price went up a little this year though. The courses are great and they also give free round after you play 3 or 4. Weekly special deals on green fees, and huge pro shop discounts. I don't know if it's true, but I heard they booked more rounds last year then anywhere else in the country.

:offtopic: post incoming from me, but I played there for one of my rounds on my Myrtle Beach trip in December. Great facility I really enjoyed it.

and it wouldnt surprise me that they booked more rounds than anywhere else, especially since that number probably included all 3 courses.

Oyster bay and Heritage (best course for the price down here) are also in the Legends group. Both are off site from where you played. Next time you're here, check out Heritage. It's just south of Caladonia/True Blue. A gorgeous course. 2 free meals and 2 beers make it even better.

Why would you expect another party to not only keep track of all your scores but also collect them from you and enter them into the system for free?

This year I don't have plans to play in either the Open or Amateur qualifiers currently, so I may let the handicap lapse this year (or I may renew, just haven't really decided either way yet). Passed the deadline two days ago for the US Open qualifier, so I'm definitely not playing in that, but if I can get out and golf some after the craze of finals is over I may renew and register for the Amateur qualifier.

I'll probably see if I can go out and golf this weekend since I have a free day. Depending on whether I can get in reasonable golf-ready shape in time will decide whether I renew probably. I hadn't played but 2 full rounds in the month leading to the Newport Cup due to a crazier than anticipated school schedule, and I feel like I really didn't play as well as I should have there because of it so I'd prefer to avoid repeating that.

Part of it is that I've been really busy recently. Got a new job working with a local gun store and they're sponsoring me to shoot competitively, so my weekends have been pretty busy with long drives to get to places where you can safely shoot targets a mile away from you instead of being busy on the course. Both hobbies are expensive, but I only get paid to do one of them so that makes it an easier choice about how I spend my currently limited free time.

@Gilberg good to see you back. Still playing that Dunlop driver you got from your uncle?

Humor it is, but its more like absurd kind of humor, nothing for a guy like @iacas . I love it.

    • Day 206 3-11 Focused on wider backswing and reconnecting arm in downswing. Wasn't really happy with how swing was looking today. Wider backswing is very different for me. Went back to do a some longer pauses at the top. Hit a few foam balls.
    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. I am thinking 12 or 13 under
