Maybe ‘farther’ is the myth. I say this in that when I’m practicing I will make slower backswings and definitely hit the ball better, thus farther than when I’m going 100%. My contact and timing works out better. But when my timing is well I certainly see taking the club back at steady and deliberate pace gives me the best distance.

It’s not true for all. Hideki, for example.

Most players benefit from making is faster (not uncontrollably so) backswing.

That is the biggest part for me. Right now, controllable "feels" slow. It would be interesting to actually time the difference. It might be 1/3rd of a second or something stupidly short.

Same here. My backswing tempo is too quick and leads to loading/sequencing issues. Increasing the duration of my backswing by 0.33s feels incredibly slow to me because I'm slowing down my backswing by 50%, but it is definitely not a slow backswing.

I like when I'm told that grain makes the ball break uphill. I'd like to see that grain and see a diagram of how the angle of individual grass blades defy gravity. I just shake my head.

What about "putting topspin on drives?" Drives with topspin are not pretty sights to see, and you have to watch quick as they don't take too long come to rest.

How many people actually believe that? I feel like the response from everyone "golf Twitter" would be "uhhh, duh".

Dunno.  Just seemed like Johnny Miller uttered it every broadcast 1x a day.  I hear it a lot.  I think  Miller would say "overspin" rather than topspin.  Not sure how I'd quantify "a lot" but I hear it sometimes.

So that's why my shots on that 180 yard downhill par 3 always hook into the hazard!:-P

Pretty much negligible from a design standpoint. I find more offset head a little harder to aim because it looks closed to me.

It is probably closed! It's tough to aim an offset club right.

The thing I've noticed is a bunch of guys with open clubfaces who think that they are "square"! When I show them an actual square clubface it looks closed to them! It looked that way to me as well!

Crap! I lost my second quote, which was about backswing speed. All I can say is, I was taught "low and slow" as well. All this made me do is "jump" from the top! Just look at the pros. They don't waste any time getting the club back, some outliers excluded!

I heard that the reason for this is if you have a faster backswing, you have to apply more force to slow it down at the top of your backswing, which means you're applying more force when you start accelerating back down again, so you get more acceleration and hence higher clubhead speed.

I don't know if "loss aversion" would explain a lot of my early golf once I could play pretty well. I'd be on the green with a legit birdie putt, and developed the irritating habit of reading the line beautifully and putting the ball 6" to 12" short of the hole! Tap in pars hole after hole! I think what I had was "success aversion"!

Regarding myth #203, I'm trying to find data/images on it and the differences between mid-irons to driver seem to be about the same, but when i'm looking for DTL views for some wedge shots DJ seems to stand more over the ball on this 156 yd wedge shot compared to his longer shots, any thoughts on this?

Ever since I came across this myth I did feel maybe I stood a bit too tall for my driver and my shots seem to be relatively more consistent than before... just wondering on the tiny details.

Exactly.  I'm doing a lot of deliberate backswing tempo work as well. I want that total mastery over tempo and transition!

Different time periods. Those two photos might be years apart, and though hit doesn't affect this much, the angles are a bit different, too.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
