It should. You should contact Andrew Norrby and pick up a copy of Lowest Score Wins from him. He's in-country, so shipping is inexpensive.

Ok cool, I'll grab a copy and see if it changes my current plan. 🙂

I'd like to suggest a topic for this thread if I may?

Myth or not? Golf is inherently bad for the environment....

I've heard this one a lot lately when I tell non-golfers how much I enjoy golf. There have been many who've gone on and on about the chemicals and what not that golf courses use to "destroy the environment" ... or green up the course.

It's a good suggestion, but I can't use it because it's not really my area of expertise.

I'm sure there are some courses out there that aren't great, and some which are fabulous.

yah, you should run this one by George Carlin, he has/had some interesting views on golf courses in general.

Not one of my own, but I may have to borrow it at some point.

The game's best players are hitting the ball HARD.

Doing a bit of math on the clubhead speed table,

pgatour_fb.jpg

Strokes Gained | Distance (All Drives) | Distance (Measured Drives) | Accuracy | Scoring | Other | Radar

The PGA Tour average max clubhead speed is 3.8% above their average clubhead speed. The biggest difference is 7.5% increase from average to max clubhead speed.

95-98% of maximum covers 85% of the PGA tour.

Tiger had the highest percentage difference between his average clubhead speed and his max clubhead speed. The guy is definitely toning it down, or at least has more in the tank. It could be that he is a true indicator of the maximum potential at 7-8%.

I've heard this one a lot lately when I tell non-golfers how much I enjoy golf. There have been many who've gone on and on about the chemicals and what not that golf courses use to "destroy the environment" ... or green up the course.

Pros - Courses have created big pieces of land that larger animals can thrive on (deer, rabbits, bears, etc.) and not be hunted.  Some courses are even built on land dumps (Chambers Bay), thus completely transforming the land to be fertile and full of life.  Most course adhere to spraying regulations that require certain conditions in order to apply fertilizers, fungicides and insecticides, which limit how much chemicals actually get into the water shed and streams.  Most courses also have water chemical/biological tests done annually to see what the run-off may be and how it effects the stream life.  More courses are starting to create habitat sanctuaries or preserve ones that already exist in wetlands.  A lot courses near big cities would be housing if they didn't exist, so yeah, having the course there is better for the environment.  More courses are also starting to use/keep more native vegetation in non-functional areas of the course and are eliminating more invasive plants.

Cons- Courses built in drier climates that may require more water usage and more regular applications of fertilizer, or those who don't adhere to spraying regulations.

Are parks better for the environment vs housing? Same thing applies to courses, they are large parks (close enough).  Most people see a course and think of the destruction to build. But ignore the clear-cutting and destruction it takes to build homes or businesses.  Courses recreate habitat and some times make it better.

I use standard grips with 3 more wraps and can play midsize with no issue. But it really depends on your hands. I have long thin fingers, so standard grips feel like pencils in my hands.

I'm the exact opposite. I have large palms with relatively short fingers. For instance, my middle fingers are easily an inch shorter than my palms from the base of that finger to the first wrist crease. Standard grip with one wrap for me.

I don't think he swung slower on purpose as the year went on. I heard that some of the earlier numbers were bad readings, and even if they weren't, I think he was amped up earlier in the year and got a bit tired as the year went on.

Well, I think this depends on what kind of bunker shot you wish to play. Do you want to play the "hop and stop" or do you want to play the "chunk and run"? It amazes me how afraid so many golfers are of bunker shots! They're not that hard...if you practice them! I realize that not everyone has a facility that allows for this. This was my situation for quite a long time. But, once I found a place with a practice bunker, I vowed to learn how to play bunker shots!

You have to learn to feel with your feet. We're not all playing on perfectly manicured courses like the Tour pros are. Heck, your bunker might not have even been raked before you played the hole! And the grade of sand in the bunker makes a difference. A finer sand will become like concrete after a rain, where a coarser grade will let the water drain through. You have to pay attention and feel this when you walk into a bunker.

Anyway, if you routinely play courses that have sand bunkers, find a practice facility that offers a sand bunker for practice. Spend some time there. It will do your game good!

I think that's just an expression of frustration. Nothing scorches me more than to have a putt looking like it's heading for the center of the hole only to snap across the face of it because it ran out of steam. If I miss on the "high side" I at least feel like I gave it a chance.

I don't think there is one type of miss that has more frustration than the others.
