Enjoy taking your boy play golf. But a helmet?? For golf??

Man, he’ll only be 4. I’m not taking a chance at him getting a ball in the head

Agree, i think Molinari is going to go from strength to strength.

I was also pleased how well Poulter did, plus in the interview post round with the BBC he seemed pretty humble at the prospects of being in contention simply stating that while he and Tiger are the same age Tiger is way better so he was just happy to be there and playing well.

Always liked Poults but he's gone up a bit more in my estimation after this weekend.

Plus some great golf from Finau, Koepka and that Xander Souffle fella :-P

Likewise. I know some on here (justifiably) dislike him, but I do think that his fall a couple of years back humbled him somewhat.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

The whole day was surreal...with the morning start and the way the round played itself out. Tiger winning is huge for golf. The only thing I'm going to get sick of hearing is how now he's got a great chance to catch Jack's 18 majors. I think we need to pump the breaks on that a little bit. Maybe after the U.S. Open (if he can get either that or the PGA done). He may not even win another one. And I'm a fan.

My bag:

He has been in contention in the last 3...I see no reason to doubt he will win more.  I think getting to Jack's record is certainly feasible.

No Laying Up podcast a good overview of the tunament.

They made a good point on the masters.com site I did back in this thread. You can go to the site, to the tracking page and almost see every single shot in decent quality video, selecting by hole or player. That's awesome.

OH it's definitely possible. I'm just saying let's not make it be the number one news story going into Bethpage. Sure he has a chance...but four more? Gonna be tough with the competition he has now. I would think that this might actually inspire some of the young guys to make sure it doesn't become all about Tiger this year.

It's only four weeks to the next major. It's gotta favor whomever was playing well at The Masters. Not saying Woods is going to win, he's probably going to be dog tired making the media rounds, celebrating, etc... But it's at Bethpage and it's going to be fun to see what happens.

I have watched him throughout his career and one thing I have learned from him is that his determination and dedication to being the best is unheard of.   I think that if he wants it bad enough; he will get it.   The only thing that can stop him from achieving that goal is himself.

Well, he beat the world's best twice in the last 6 months; was in contention in the last two majors of 2018 taking 2nd place in the PGA and 6th in the British...in his first year back.  Those 75-100 golfers are capable...but he has proven that he can not only "hang" with the young guns...but beat them solidly.

I agree with all of that, but it's incorrect to state that the only thing holding him back is himself.

If that were the case he would win every tournament he enters.

I didn't say that the only thing "holding him back is himself."  I don't think any thing is holding him back.  I said if he wants it bad enough; he will get it.  That is all.  And back in his prime he did in fact have the mindset that he would win every tournament he enters.  If some of that focus is rekindled...look out PGA tour.

Bethpage is a different course than Augusta. It's very long course which traditionally has penal rough. Looking at the scorecard, there are only two par-5s and there are 5 par-4s over 475 yards and three par-4s over 500 yards. There'a  524-yard par-4. So it's going to be a monster. If you're not a big hitter, you're going to have a hard time, especially if it's a soft track like it was the last couple times the US Open was there.

Tiger has also won at Bethpage, and was in the running when Glover won there, too.

Of course. Not saying Tiger can't win there, just saying it's a different breed than Augusta. The way he's hitting his irons he can win anywhere. I like his chances more at Pebble, but the PGA is definitely doable.

    • It sucks to carry around a lot of water, but ideally it should be way more than we think.  I buy those gallon jugs of water and hang them from my pushcart when I walk. I agree with the electrolytes as well. You don't just sweat out water, but you lose electrolytes as well.
    • A 2010 study from the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research compares the effects of different pre-round stretch routines for competitive golfers. Active Dynamic Warm-up: Swing Medicus driver, hit 3 shots each with selected clubs. Passive Static Stretches: Various athletic stretches such as hamstrings, chest stretch and reverse trunk twist. The subjects were collegiate golfers with a HDCP index of 5 or less who engaged regularly in strength and fitness routines. All golfers had two test days: one with active dynamic (AD) warmup, a second with AD followed by static stretches (SS). The results were then compared, within golfers and across golfers. For performance testing after the warmups, golfers hit three driver shots at time 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes after the warmup. The study shows that static stretch formats produced poorer performance outcomes in the four measures shown in Table 5, which shows Time Zero results. The performance deficits under the PSS protocol decreased over time. Some suggestions on why the passive protocol was tied to lower performance than the active protocol: The passive stretches routine induced excessive range of motion,  basically producing wobbles in the golf swing. Other research indicates that the stretching produced slack in the tendons, lessening the amount of muscle force that could be transferred into the shot. One caveat: The study had good scientific controls and balancing of treatments (test routines). This was, however, an exploratory study and raises as many questions as it answers. Also, although the study was done back in 2010, it is still cited as a primary work in recent reviews. A quick online search did not reveal any follow-ups on the study. For those interested, the study PDF is below. PassiveStretchGOLF.pdf
    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
