Fishing.......

My spare time before golf was dominated by fishing.  I used to fish during the week after work and on the weekends.  When I took to golf, I stopped fishing cold turkey.  LOL   My wife is happy I switched to golf because I'd stay out all night fishing...LOL

My normal  weekly golf routine during prime season...... I play 2 evenings a week and I'm home by dark.  I play early on the weekends and I'm usually home by 10-11am.  She likes that muuuuuch better!!!

Shooting sporting clays (clay discs with a shotgun). I used to be pretty good, but golf is my new love. Many things about my shooting helped my golf (awareness of what the body is doing, discipline and focus when practicing, visioning before a shot, serenity, etc.)

Some family time though the kids are getting so busy with school and social life it doesn't impact quality time.  I've shortened some workouts to fit in time for the range and I'm also not as much of a workaholic as I was before getting addicted to golf.

Everything is done in balance though I do spend more idle time here on TST, watching golf, reading about golf and at the club.

Like working on the swing,,score means nothing to me. Might just go to the range and give up playing... ( might happen)

Mountain biking, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, ATVing and motocross.  None of that gave me as much satisfaction as a perfectly struck golf shot.

If you were to ask that question of my ex-wife, she would say I gave her up for golf. Not a bad trade actually.

I'm only really distressed to find out that I now actually enjoy watching PGA golf on TV...

Yeah, our life is over when we do that...:-P I have been watching at the courses while eating or resting, or catch it on YouTube.

Shooting sporting clays ... serenity...

Two things I usually don't associate with each other. :-\

I can honestly say that I didn't give up anything for golf. Maybe I'm just so utterly consumed by it that it's clouded my memory and judgment.

Maybe my dignity? My wife yells at me all the time for making practice swings when we're out in public. I mean, c'mon, seriously what else is there to do when you're standing on lines or shopping? And department stores have such lovely full length mirrors...

Whatever, I'm not addicted, I can totally quit whenever I want...

I've only been playing 3 years now - but have averaged well over 100 rounds a year - totally OCD'd out on golf - can't imagine anyone playing much more & holding down a full time job.     Fishing dominated my life for 35 years or so - was something I always did with my Dad & brothers, fishing club tournaments & by myself.    I used to fish ALOT (understatement)  - have 3 boats and now they have weeds growing up through the wheels.     I have closets full of fishing gear - golf gear is gradually filling up the garage though.    I wouldn't say I've given up fishing - but I fish dramatically less than used to - need to regain some life balance & put the brakes on my obsession with golf & spend more time on the water .... time will only tell if I can do it - golf has its hooks in me deep

Previously I fished and the type of fishing I loved to do involved a good deal of traveling up north to the better walleye lakes in our state.  About 5-years ago a change in job responsibilities and work travel responsibilities really impacted my ability to get away for fishing.  Since I had been a very committed golfer 20-25 years ago I decided why not take it up again.  Golf has filled the vacuum nicely and I eventually sold my boat a year ago last spring.

Upland bird hunting is still a big interest and since it fits nicely with the end of our golfing season I see it keeping its place.  Fishing on the other hand probably won't be back in the rotation until I get near retirement.

Didn't have to give up anything. Once school and house was remodeled had lots of free time to play instead of study or do construction work.

We started about the same time, but, Wow, you got in 300 rounds? I think I am lucky if I have more than 120, and most of those were just fun rounds. I only scored about 50 rounds, and played strictly by the rules 20?

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
