Hi Guys,

Pretty simple here, in this thread make a post nominating a member of The Sand Trap for a month of free "in-depth" online lessons with both/either Erik ( @iacas ) and/or myself ( @mvmac ). The nominations are open for the entire month of May and the member that is selected with receive the lessons during the month of June. We're planning to have this go for at least a year (six lesson months, six nomination months) so if your guy doesn't get picked there is always next time.

The online lessons will take place in a thread dedicated to them (or perhaps the winner's "My Swing" thread), and will contain a mixture of video and photos.

One nomination per member. You can nominate yourself, someone who might not be able to afford quality instruction or someone who you feel is a solid member and would benefit from working with Erik and I.

When you post make sure to tag the member using the @ symbol. If you're on a mobile device, make sure you click the button to actually use the @ symbol to link to the person.

Also thanks to @cipher for prompting this idea.

@colin007

I know he started a swing thread but it went dormant pretty quickly.

Or @nevets88 .  He always posts interesting stuff.  He has a Member Swing thread and has been to Golf Evolution, but may not use Evolvr.

I could be wrong, but I think @nevets88 is already an Evolvr student. I'm assuming the idea here is to create new students?

Would the free online instruction be a part of a My Swing thread?  I would hope so.  It would be very interesting.

Yes I'm pretty sure we'll make all the videos and stuff available for everyone to see.

That's a good idea.  Sort of make the "price" of the free lessons a diary that we can all follow along with.

Can we nominate more than one person?  If so, I'd like to throw @newtogolf 's hat into the ring, along with @jefkve .  I don't think either of them has done Evolvr before, so I'd like to see what you guys can do for each of them. :beer:

Kind of like Haneys teaching show.  Should be very interesting depending on the student.

As of right now it's one nomination per member, I'll add that to the OP.

A few nominations off the top of my head, in no particular order:

@Crim seems like a decent enough fellow, is a supporter, but not an evolvr student. He seems like he'd listen. He always seems happy when we help him out on his swing thread.

@14ledo81 also seems like a decent guy.

I'd say @Fourputt but I know he rarely plays these days. And if he has a camera, which I doubt, it's probably one of those that you have to crank :-P JK.

@RFKFREAK might listen to you guys.

It's hard to nominate people because I'm not sure which regulars interested in lessons aren't already in the program.

I feel like @Hammer 4 is already getting lessons. So he's out.

I'm not sure how interested they'd be but the following guys would make good candidates if they wanted to be:

@newtogolf , @bplewis24 , @RonTheSavage , @scopek , @meenman , @inthehole .... I'm not sure if @k-troop would be interested. I'm trying to think of a long time member who may be interested....

This is tough. OK, I've said too many names.

@billchao perhaps? I wish I had a comprehensive list here to work with :-D

In other sad news, I've wasted ^^^ this much brain space remembering some of your internet handles. :doh:

Oops. Obviously I didn't read this before finalizing my previous post. Let me rethink this for a second.

I nominate @billchao .

He seems like a good guy, and I seem to remember (apologize if wrong) that he mentioned something about it not being in his budget right now.

OK, then in that case I'll go with @newtogolf ... since I know that Jeff has a set of 5SK DVD's and he's close to you, so it's going to be easier for him to get personal lessons if he wants. :beer:

    • My heated driving range is closing
      About 10 years ago I had a heated range go up literally a half mile from my house. It didnt last 2 years so I feel your pain. Luckily theres one about 35 minutes from where I live now that seems to always be busy. They even have a simulator.
    • The Legendary Callaway Great Big Bertha Tungsten Titanium Irons of 1997
      NOSTALGIA: To buy or not to buy?  That IS the Question... I grew up playing golf.  By age 8 I was pretty much an addict.  At the course, rain or shine, every single day after school in the spring and all summer long.  I would often play with older guys, me being the 4th in a foursome as I often went early (dawn ) and by myself.  The course was in walking distance so I could manage it by myself.  Like a lot of beginners and especially juniors, I had junk clubs.  Wilson Junior 1200s to be exact.  No lessons of any kind just a golf book by Ben Hogan and a lot of hard work and discipline on the range.  I was becoming a good junior golfer by age 11. I could break 85 consistently at my home course (and 90 else where).  Once in a while you would get a group of guys that had brand new equipment.  Personalized Staff bags.  Cigars.  Decked out with Ashworth gear and making wagers with one another for me was a lot of money.  In 1997/1998 a lot of the clubs I saw in their bags were Callaway.  The Drivers.  The Irons.  Ping putters.  I think a lot of guys grab the best gear thinking that status is important and the perceived "better" clubs would equate to "better" scores or they would feel "better" about shooting 100.  I started seeing more and more of these $2,000+ sets of irons: the fabled Callaway Great Big Bertha Tungsten Titanium Irons.  If I was really fortunate, my golf skills and attitude would endear me enough to the rest of the group that they would let me hit a couple balls during/after the round after I showed interest in their equipment.  I was hitting my knockoff driver (The Rogue) about 185 yards at the time.  Take out the "Great Big Bertha" and BOOM 210 yards!  My 7 iron was carrying about 125 yards... with the tungsten titanium it was MUCH longer.  Maybe it was the design/technology.  Maybe it was purely psychological.  Maybe it was luck or all of the above.  Whatever it was, I knew immediately that with these magical clubs in my bag I could take my game to the next level.  Sadly, I never could afford the price tag... until now.  These clubs hold a special place in my heart.  These guys were reluctant to play with the skinny 11 year old kid with crap equipment... I didn't fit the mold of a "good" golfer.  They asked the starter if they could play with some one else because I would "slow them down."  They assumed I was a hacker.  And then I proved them wrong.  I beat the pants off these guys and although it made me happy to see them eat their words, I didn't show it.  I was breaking 85 and they were breaking 100... barely.  Seeing that they underestimated me and then befriend me over the course of 18 holes was special.  It taught me a lot about people, perception, life, and reality.  ***Would you purchase a set of clubs for nostalgia alone?  Would these clubs stack up against Callaway X 20 tour irons (what I have in the bag now)???  Have you ever had a similar experience on the course with new equipment?  What is your favorite iron set of the 90s? 2000s?  What were your first set of clubs?***
    • How to eliminate blowup holes
      Havnt read lsw yet but its on my list. And while I agree thats not ALWAYS the best strategy, I think thats a great piece of advice. I think I know when Im in trouble and I get discouraged thinking its too late to save my score on that hole. Your strategy changes my mind set and gives me more reason to focus on the next shot so I can limit the damage by not making another mistake. Its between the ears as they say! GREAT tip, thanks!
    • Quitting a round early - Why Would You Quit?
      Slow rounds are annoying, but the only time I've quit (other than the issues listed in OP) is because a ridiculously slow round would cause me to be late to an important meeting or event.
