Do you know what you are shooting during a round?

My buddy exactly knows what he is shooting after each hole. On the other hand, I only check what I'm shooting after each 9 holes.

How about you? Do you keep track of how many strokes you are over after each hole?

I just keep score in relation to par... +1, -1 whatever it happens to be. I have a really good memory, so after the round, I'll fill out all my stats. I seldom use a card unless I'm playing with a group of friends or in a tournament.

I try not to think about it, but on a typical day I'll make quite a few pars and a bogey here or there so I usually have an idea. However, the other day I went into 9(a par 5) thinking that I needed a birdie to shoot a 39. I made par, realized I was playing a par 35 course, and proceeded to rejoice at another sub 40 round. That's been my goal this year. I had only done it 2 or 3 times prior to this year but I have 6 of them this year, and most of my other scores have only been like 41 or 42. However, I have had a few stinkers...

Yes, I know how well I'm playing and scoring each hole. I can't really help it or change it. I'd have to try really hard to pretend to forget my prior holes in order to not know whether I'm +4 through 4 holes or if I'm +1, etc.

If I have a variety of scores per 9, ie. Bogey birdie par par par double birdie par par....I usually dont know till I total it up....but if I am playing consistently ie. Par par par par par birdie bogey par bogey, I usually know where Im at.

I don't, and I don't really care. I can tell if I'm playing well or not. I don't need to keep a running total. Certainly don't need an electronic gadget to do it for me. When I play well I know where I am in relation to par, and when I play poorly enough that I can't keep track without thinking about it, then I don't really worry about it until I'm done. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised.... other times not so.

Usually not, and I only play 9 holes most of the time. When I play 18, I probably check after 9, but I don't really have an established habit. I tend to have a sense for how I'm doing, but try not to get caught up in the numbers since all it will do is cause me to press on later holes. I've rarely been surprised with a good round, but it's been nice after awful rounds to add up and realize that it wasn't as bad as it felt...

Yeah-I'm surprised how many people here don't know their total, but that must just be the way I'm wired. As mentioned earlier, I know where I am in relation to par-whether I try to remember or not. I'm +1, I'm even, I'm +2, etc.

Once you get to a certain level, I'm not sure how you don't. Back when I was a 18-25 handicap I didn't really, because sometimes it'd be quite high and I'd actually lose track without checking back with the scorecard.

But now I always know how many over par I am.

I just have it in my head. I don't go to the scorecard and count them all up, but I remember what I made on holes and pretty much always know where I am.

Agreed, when I am playing well, its hard not to know how your playing...

i find out at the end. and the other day, i holed out and realized the 6 footer i missed on the last hole was for a 79...ARGH!!!!
