What's next, Gatorade, coffee, water?  It is getting ridiculous.  The anti-dpoing zealots are getting as bad as the dopers themselves.

Whatever keeps people from flicking cigarette butts all ove the course is okay by me. Go ahead and brand me a zealot if you wish.

I could see WADA passing this, but it won't happen on the PGA Tour in the near future. I agree with sean_miller as well. That would be a really nice side effect.

As a former smoker, I hate the smell of cigarettes now (but oddly enough enjoy the smell of a nice cigar). I wouldn't mind them being banned on the course....HOWEVER...I don't think it's within their rights to do so.

As a smoker ( not one that flicks butts all over the course ) I think this is silly.

I see just as many beer cans and general rubbish on the course. It isn't the fact someone who smokes flicks butts everywhere - it comes down to people being lazy and disrespectful in general

Smokers should also be aware most people hate the smell of it, so if you share a cart with someone, don't light up in their face, or stand next to them when you are smoking.

And if it does annoy you - most smokers don't mind being told that. I certainly don't.

I wish individual courses would ban smoking.  I truly get tired of seeing the slobs flick their cigarette butts all over the place.  Tee boxes and greens are just littered with them.  I will never understand why smokers think it is acceptable to flick their butts wherever they pleased.  Oddly enough, many of the same smokers carefully put all of their other trash in the garbage cans.

I've been paired up with smokers before, and generally speaking, most of them are very respectful. I think the problem really comes in when there's some guys out beer golfing and end up starting the 19th hole on the 10th.

I'm a former smoker as well.  I'll admit to "flinging butts all over the place" in my much younger years, but age and maturity can make people change their ways.  I quit smoking five years ago and littering the course a LONG time before that.  I don't see smoke-free golf in our future, either privately or on the PGA Tour.  There's enough interference with our individual rights as it is and although I don't smoke anymore I respect the rights of people who do.

Smoke free courses might not be so far off given NY seems to be pushing hard to ban smoking at public parks, train station platforms and just about any public place where people would complain about second hand smoke.

All San Francisco courses are non-smoking, but no one informs the golfers of that unless your name is Michael Jordon. During the Monday 2009 President's Cup practice round, Jordan was smoking a cigar and the city informed him that smoking is prohibited on all SF courses. Didn't have a cigar the next few days.

Until that day, I didn't know that San Francisco courses were non-smoking.

Best Regards,
Ryan

I have not smoked in over 20 years and think quitting was the best thing I ever did for my health.  Having said that I don't believe courses should ban smoking on the course.  You're in the outdoors and I can't believe you can't avoid the smoke if you want to. Smokers are already limited enough and cannot smoke in most public places.  Where I live they can't even smoke in a bar unless the bar has "special ventilation systems" in an enclosed smoking area.  So I think enough is enough and don't see any reason to ban smoking from the golf course other than fire danger when the forests are dry and all outdoors fire is banned.

Another item on the long, long list of things-that-other-people-do-that-I-don't-particularly-care-about-because--they-don't-affect-me-in-any-particularly-meaningful-way. Smoke 'em if you got 'em. But yeah, don't drop 'em.

I understand that some California courses ban smoking.  But do these course ban alcohol too.  I believe you can smoke in your auto but run the risk of being arrested if consuming alcohol in the car.  What's next breathalyzers on the golf carts?

Or sunflower seeds!  I hate those things on the green.  Not always, but just about once in a while, some clown eats sunflower seeds and spits out the shells on the green.

But seriously, some courses have banned them in CA and CO due to fire hazard.

This is actually quite annoying as well. Has anyone ever tried to clear a path through sunflower seeds? It's a pain in the arse.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
